Linksys Wcf12+space In Essid+128bits Key
« on: October 10, 2005, 12:09:20 pm »
Hi all,

The Wifi card is working well with kismet and my hotel wifi connection (40bit Web Key) but i'm not able to be connected to my Office Wifi Network.
The office ESSID is with a space (like "john doe") and the WEP key is 26 characters long (so i suppose it is a 128b encryption key.
I have created a new connection with the sharp tool (so "johndoe" without the space, and the key, network type 'infrastructure', DHCP and DNS automatic, WEP key 'Open System', then modify the :

a -/home/zaurus/Applications/Network/modules/WLANx.conf to add the space to the ESSID
b - /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.opts to add the space to the ESSID too

But it is not working, the card led flash during the initialisation process.
I have then modifie the syslogd conf (*.*) file and run a tail -f /var/log/message

Here is the result when I plug in the card and try to connect

Code: [Select]

the 2 lignes :

Code: [Select]
Oct 10 10:29:18 localhost dhcpcd[6606]: DHCP_NAK server response received
Oct 10 10:29:23 localhost dhcpcd[6606]: timed out waiting for a valid DHCP server

means something is wrong ??

I have tried to put 20 instead of 10 in the timeout parameter of the WLANx.conf file, but no success. Same stuff each time i try to connect this network. I realy need to be connected at the office but i didn't know what to try now, an idea? i'm lost

I have a Z C1000, and use the regular Sharp Rom in english.

Note : my laptop is connected to this network and there is no MAC adress filtering (some people came sometimes for one day only and are able to use this network without trouble)

Try to set the essid to "ANY" and verify if you are using WEP or WPA in your office.

Well, i will try to set up the connection with "any"... But if i run kismet, i can see 2 essid of my office network, identify wep key protected network (G net), and an other one as B net.
And there is realy no pb for my destop to be conncted, with windows or linux (mandriva 2005). I think it is a Wep.
Just to confirm, is the modification of the 2 file above are the only files to modify/setup for a connection to an essid with a space ?
thanks

It works !!.

Starting from a DHCP / IP issue,

I have disable the DHCP in the Network configuration tool and put mask and gateway that i have for my laptop. I have added 1 to the Laptop IP for the Z IP.

after that the connection applet says that the Z is connected but i have no internet connection..

So i have just remove from the WLANx.conf the assigned IP, Gateway etc, write a configuration copied from my an other working connection to set up a DHCP.

Remove the card, plug it back and Hop ! ca marche !!

It seems that the DHCP had difficulties to assign IP ant other stuff , trying to force the IP, gateway etc.. should have helped!! I don't realy know but it is working now!!.

I'm having a similar problem with a sl-5500 a wcf12 and a 128bits ap at the office. I can't connect to the network usin DHCP + any ssid (or defined one) + wep, teh card seems to "see" the network on the current tab of the network app but i can't connect to it. I'll try self asigning a n ip.

  Thanks,  tomas
