I didn\'t buy a card: I got a Sportrak Map. Which is looking like a (fortunately not *too* big) mistake: accessories for it are a real PITA to find at retail, and it can be a bit difficult to mail-order them when you\'re on the road in an RV ;-) I\'ve also since discovered that the salescritter was either mistaken or lying when he told me it was the lowest-cost model with a PC interface.
When you\'re shopping, be sure to look for comparative reviews that test for differences in sensitivity: don\'t just trust the manufacturers\' numbers. I recently read a couple that showed ranges of about 10-to-1 between the best and worst in similarly-priced units. That\'ll make a huge difference in how reliably it works in situations where surroundings like dense foliage or buildings get in the way of satellite signals.
It would also be good to see whether you can find comparisons between CF and standalone units: my suspicion is that the cards don\'t have enough room to hold as good an antenna as the maker can put in a handheld or roof-mount receiver.
I\'ve seen a big difference in how many satellites the Sportrak can pick up, and how strongly, depending on whether it\'s inside or outside the truck. So I bouight a Pelikan 1030 box (much like an Otterbox) to make a weatherproof rooftop housing for it. If you want something for car navigation, you\'ll probably want to either get a separate gadget, or one that supports an external antenna.
