Refreshing The Desktop On C1000
« on: August 02, 2006, 02:58:18 pm »
I have some programs installed on the SD card, and if I remove the card the desktop icons turn into "?" and do not reappear when I reinsert the card.
The only way I can get the icons to appear again is to reboot.

Is there a way to refresh the desktop without rebooting?
I was thinking there might be a command I could execute in the terminal that would take care of it, but so far I haven't been able to find anything about it.

Thanks,
Doug

Depends on what system you have installed.

  With Cacko or Sharp Rom,  you can enter this command at the console:
$ qcop QPE/System "linkChanged(QString)"
SL-C1000 with pdaXrom R198 and latest SP.
D-Link DCF-660W wifi CF card.  Sitecom CN-501 Bluetooth CF Card.  PNY 4 GB SD card.  PNY 1 GB CF Card.  Pretec CF modem.  BenQ usb mini keyboard.  USB CD-Rom.  PDAir leather case.

Not sure if this works in the situation you mentioned.
To refresh an icon, or newly installed/uninstalled program's icon.
(one which has been installed/uninstalled manually)
Do this:
Open tab settings, click any program icon, then select the "pencel" to edit it.
Don't actually edit it, but select "OK" and back out of Tab settings with the "OK" button.
This will refresh the icons, but won't change anything.

You can try the following which may restore your icons:

- Open the "Shutdown" application
- Click on "Restart Qtopia"

This will restart the Qtopia desktop and may restore your icons.  I have all apps installed to Internal so I can't test it.

@dproldan:
I have Sharp Rom 1.01 JP (sorry about that).
That command gives me "command not found" or "not found" as su.

@Jon J:
Thanks, but the tab settings refresh didn't work.

@gr8ful:
I don't have the Shutdown/Restart Qtopia application,
but I think this is what I really need.
Any idea where I might find this so I can install it?
(It came standard on my SL-5500 with Sharp Rom 3.13... I can't understand why it's not on this stock sharp rom as well).

Thanks everyone for all your help.

I'm running Cacko 1.23 on my C1K and it came pre-loaded as a part of that.  I searched around and have not found it as a stand-alone ipk.

Yeah, I think I'll just have to reboot (reboot only takes a couple minutes anyway).
Thanks.
