-probably typing this in all wrong
but this is what I get:

bash-2.05$ ssh -| root zaurus

Well I haven\'t tried this yet, but it looks to me like you\'re doing this from your Zaurus, and I assume dhns meant for you to do it from the Mac.  I think you also need ssh (OpenSSH probably) installed on the Zaurus, which isn\'t mentioned in the instructions I\'ve seen.

Silly me!

Ok typed this in terminal and got some weird security message:
Last login: Thu May  6 19:21:35 on ttyp1
Welcome to Darwin!
[Jane-Curtiss-Computer:~] keithb% ssh -l root 192.168.129.201

This system is for the use of authorized users only.  Individuals using this computer system are subject to having all of their activities on this system monitored and recorded.  Anyone using this system expressly consents to such monitoring and is advised that if such monitoring reveals possible criminal activity, system personel may provide evidence of such monitoring to law enforcement.

Ps I think Openssh is installed as part of the installation package.

If Irun  Zmacsync after the terminal i can see it fetches addresses from the z
but doesnt place them in my address book.

Exactly. Try to run ssh on the Mac to access openssh on the Zaurus. The openssh server ipk is included in the ZMacSync distribution. Just follow the instructions for installing \'zdbat\' and \'openssh\'.

That is exactly what openssh for Zaurus is also doing on my machines. I dont exactly understand where it is coming from but I assume that openssh brings this message if someone logs in as \'root\' without password.

a couple of things. you do need to run ssh first from the terminal before zmacsync could work.
Code: [Select]
ssh root@192.168.129.201

However, I am not sure this is the real problem with why it is not working correctly. I have toyed with it now for a couple of hours and am just getting much.

Here is one error related to having a single record in the z\'s address book with the first name Goober and the last name May. No other data.
Code: [Select]
2004-05-07 09:29:29.326 ZMacSync[649] writeStatus: fetching Zaurus data...

2004-05-07 09:29:29.333 ZMacSync[649] ssh ...

2004-05-07 09:29:29.337 ZMacSync[649] waiting for completion...

2004-05-07 09:29:31.135 ZMacSync[649] *** -[NSPlaceholderDictionary initWithObjects:forKeys:]: number of objects (52) not equal to number of keys (49)

Now with further toying I actually had a successful reed. It read all the data from the Mac, and said it wrote the data to files on the zaurus (forgot to save the console.log on that one) but I have not been able to repeat the situation. The only things I have changed are user name setting for the zaurus in zmacsync.

Dear Mac & Zaurus addicts,
there is now the second alpha release of our syncing tool ready for download through this page:

http://www.dsitri.de/wiki.php?page=ZMacSync

It has a working GUI and is reading in the Mac Address Book, Calendar and Stickies. And it should contact the Zaurus through ssh and zdbat to fetch Addresses, ToDo, Calendar and Text Edit Notes. And now, it is also formatting (but not yet writing) the Mac Address Book to the Zaurus.

Access to the Zaurus is the current main focus of development - makeing the communication with the Zaurus work. As there are many different Zaurus models and ROMs out there, we would be happy to learn from your experience.

Please test and report bugs including a copy of the MacOS X Console protocol to either:
* development@dsitri.de
* http://www.dsitri.de/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=18
* or here

NOTE: This release is not (yet) syncing anything, so don\'t expect too much.

Thanks again for your support!

Thank you very much! In the new release, this bug should have been solved.

Note, that we still do not write anything to the Zaurus or Mac Databases (although the GUI might tell so) not to clobber your databases.

Happy testing,
hns
