handwriting recognition, þ and ð

The handwriting recognition has an incomplete Latin 1 character set; namely, it\'s missing the letters þ and ð. Is there any way to add them?

I\'m a afraid I can\'t answer your question, but I\'m curious, are you doing handwriting in Icelandic or Old English, that you need the thorn and the edh?

The customize keyboard plugin, which can either display a pick list for characters or convert arbitrary key sequences to other characters (e.g., \"c\" + \";\" =] \"ç\", or as I use it Shift+\"(\" =] \"[\"), can add the thorn; set up the customize keyboard, then select the thorn from the Unicode plugin.

I couldn\'t find the edh in the unicode list, but presumably if you know the unicode byte sequence for it and have font that displays it, you can add it to the customize keyboard plugin as well.

Custom keyboard is well worth having.

With the handwriting input open, tap the little pencil button to the bottom right of the input area and go to the Customize tab.

Tap the \'Clear\' button and draw the input you want for your first character. Then tap the \'New\' button and enter the actual character your input pattern represents using the unicode input method.

Repeat this for any other characters you want and then tap OK.

Before I gave my answer, I went into the handwriting app to see if I could figure out how to add a new character. Tapping \"New\" didn\'t work, so I assumed \"New\" was for adding new /variations/, and left it at that.

Yeah, it\'s a bit backwards, but it requires less taps/steps. The \'Add\' button is for adding variations btw.

On the subject of handwriting recognition, when you add a new character there is a drop down list of special characters. There are the usual ones like [Backspace], [Tab], etc, but then there is also [Shortcut], [Punctuation], [Extended], and [Symbol]. There doesn\'t seem to be any explanation of how these other special characters work. [Shortcut] sounds like it could be something similar to shortcuts on PalmOS. Does anyone know anything about these?
