Zaurus IrDA port connect to the internet via Cell Phone IrDA
« on: April 19, 2004, 12:41:51 pm »
How do I Prepare the IrDA port to connect my Zaurus to the internet via Cell Phone IrDA?

I have a Zaurus 5500 SL and a Panasonic GU87 cell phone.

In using my Panasonic GU87 as a wireless modem using the phone’s IrDA port, there are no settings in the phone itself other then enabling the “Connect Modem” setting by pressing the sequence [MENU] ] 9 ] 7 ] 2 on the phone’s keypad.  As for configuring your Zaurus for this function, only the developer of the OS software used for the Zaurus can provide you with the instructions for configuring the PDA to transmit to the phone’s IrDA port to connect to the Internet.
Please help me in solving this problem? Yes, I understand the the Panasonic GU87 GSM does not have the Blue chip capable. But the GU87 GSM has and a Irda modem and other ways to connect to my PDA. Why am I have so my issues with connecting the internet via my PDA. At&T provide me with the dial up codes of *99***1# and *99#.

On the Zaurus Select Network Icon, Select New bottom,
On the following screen, click on ((:: Dial-Up (IrDA) and then click add at the bottom.
On the IrDA screen, at the phone: enter the dial-up code *99#
Click on the Modem tab, Now my Question is what is the Init Command?

What should I do to get connected to the internet via IrDA?

Thanks

You my try \"ATZ\" (without quotation marks) first.  It works for me.

That looks like GPRS, you might try a bog standard dialup number to check that you have comms before messing around with GPRS (which afaicr is a pain to set up).

Try a search, there have been lots of threads about dial-up connections, and also about GPRS (or were they on the DevNet?).

There is a known issue with Ericsson phones and Sharp 3.1 Roms (or compatible ones), which means that unless you have a patched kernel, you are unable to use IRDA or Bluetooth. I don\'t know whether Panasonic phones would come into this catagory?

Try looking at this thread :
