The original indiegogo said it would have an X25 CPU, and some people will get lucky and get a functionally equivalent X27 which is a very modest improvement.

If I get an X27, I'll be pleased but I care more about not having the hardware issues others have had.

If you're having temperature problems, then possible your battery has a problem, I'd be asking Planet if I can exchange the battery, and then exchange the Gemini if I still had a problem.

At some point Clove.co.uk might be stocking them. Perhaps they will charge a premium and offer a standard warranty?

The original campaign also said it would have an 8k mAh battery, among other things... so that's no excuse.

yes, actually, the battery capacity irks me more than the CPU.

As I recall, Planet said somewhere that 'the specs' mentioned were more like targets/goals, not guaranteed to be there in shipped product.

Indeed: according to the Wayback Machine, the specs section said:
Quote
*We are working hard to achieve the above technical specifications for Gemini.

The bottom line, AISI, is that Planet is working in good faith, trying its best to deliver machines that match the spec, that do everything we expect and hope, in a timely fashion.  Both their initial spec and timescale were very ambitious, and with their very limited resources I'm not surprised that the latter has slipped a little; but I'm sure they will get there.  And, with enough support, far beyond!

I for one am pissed that I got a X25 instead of a X27 when my order ID was 1115 that is 115 more then the 1000 that was to have the X25 chip.

There were other orders, things like the case, connectivity kit etc. Order 1115 could still easily be within the first 1000 gemini devices. Well I suppose it was if you got one  As far as performance, there is a slight improvement on paper, but this thing is fast. It smokes my old snapdragon 810 by some margin. It might not be right up there with the latest, but it is more than fast enough for me. I must admit, the power improvements of the x27 would have been nice though.

As I noticed my Gemini can not go 12 hours without needing to be recharged and the case gets hot along with the battery when recharging it.

Wow, you are really using the thing! I am using the gemini as my only device. Off the charger at 6am - during the day it is used occaisionally (I have set up an sshd server on it so I can ssh in and read my text messages) at work for browsing/texts/calls. When I get home, I am still around 90%. With significant effort I can get it to about 40-50% by midnight - by this I mean open arena, mupen64, lots of browsing, youtube, email, bills etc. I really do only use the gemini now - no more laptop.

Planet are only a small company and I have sent a few queries - they always answer, it just might take a little while. I have cut them some slack. I don't know what the warranty period is sorry.

PS. Maybe I am just lucky, or maybe it is only the noisy few who have problems but my gemini appears to be problem free in all respects. Once I worked out why it was dropping calls (not the gemini's fault btw) it has been faultless.

I am using it in Android and that maybe whats causing it to go through the power faster. I am using it for navigation  using Waze and for phone calls and video calls on Tango. When I get the camera it will be the only device I use because I will then be able to take pictures of the errors I am having to fix for my work report. I have  gotten the Gemini set up for dual boot with rooted Android and Debian but I have not been able to get Debian to connect as a phone or to WiFi. So I am waiting hoping that Ubuntu will soon be released.

Oh yeah, Waze, that eats a ton of power, to keep the GPS active, the screen on, audio playing regularly.

I use an Anker 2A power adaptor in my car to power my LG V20, and sometimes when the screen brightness is up, podcasts are streaming over bluetooth and Waze is running, I get a message to say that there's not enough power to run the phone and charge the battery at the same time!

Still having trouble with the battery lasting more then 6 hour before it shuts down due to lack of power. Nice thing is it recharges in 120 minutes. So now just have to make sure that  I am next to an outlet or have a battery pack for 2 hours so it can recharge. I believe the X27 will work longer before battery is depleted  due the the power saving features of the cpu.

As I understand it, the power saving features of X27 are to do with display brightness management and in many circumstances will make barely any difference.
I will only use Waze when connected to a power source, Waze is just too much of a power hog.

The screen is what is killing my battery I have it plugged in recharging now and it shows Screen 28% use of battery and Wi-Fi  is at 1%. I will re-post later after it has finished charging so you can see what is killing the battery. I have not been using Waze on it to make the battery last longer.

What brightness do you have your screen at? Mine is amply bright at about 20-25%. You could also go to auto brightness as well. Unless you are running heavy duty games, then the screen will always be the biggest user of power. Network/GPS don't help, but the screen trumps them all. Turn the screen brightness down and get an instant battery boost

I had it set for auto but have now set it for 25% and my battery is lasting longer.

I have my brightness set 1 up from minimum. That works fine at home and in the office. I haven't tried it outside or in the warehouse yet tho.
