When ever someone compares the UX-50 & the C860 there is usually mention made of how the UX-50\'s keyboard \"lights up\".

Well, folks, my C860\'s keyboard ALSO \"lights up\" <G>. When its too dark to easily read the keys, I simply tilt the screen about 10-15 degrees towards me.

This lets me still read the screen while, at the same time, shining the backlight down on the keyboard, making it easily readable even in total darkness.

So, we can eliminate THAT \"difference\" once & for all!! <G>

I haven\'t got my SL-C860 yet but I was also thinking that the screen light would usually light up the keyboard and you solved it!!!!

LOL! You are absolutely right, oh my word....  :-)

The importance people can place on a couple of LEDs is astonishing..  I use my 860 in the dark all the time, no problem at all.
Left Linux and Linux PDAs... sorry, got boring.  Switched to Mac.

Wow,
I feel almost at home. I too have a broken hp200lx on my kitchen table. I have used this baby for a looong time! I have looked and looked for a replacement, and finally made a decision for the SL-C860.  I am now anixously awaiting for it to arrive. I too got it off of ebay. I haven\'t yet decided which rom to use, but am reading the boards like crazy!

[snip]Finally found a hex/binary editor for the C860 in Hi. [snip]

Bob,

Where is this hex editor?  I haven\'t come across it; can\'t find it on ZSI or handango.

Thanks,

~ray

~ray:

Binary Editor (hi) <like vi but hex> by Kazunori Mita; current v2.2

 Japanese <http://ww2.plala.or.ja/mita/download/hi/info.html>

 English <http://ww2.plala.or.ja/mita/download/hi/info_en.html>

a command line utility to edit files or memory

Syntax:

hi {file [file ...] | -m shmid [-m shmid ...] | -m shmid [-m shmid ...] | [--help] [--version]

if you have Midnight Commander then you can also use CTRL-3 to view the file under the selection bar, then CTRL-4 to view it in hex. (CTRL-2 from there to edit).

Still wish there were a simple viewer utility like LIST, though.

I paid £565, that\'s $1,039 USD at today\'s prices and it took me a year to save for it (it was a C700 when I started, but the C860 was out by the time I was ready to buy) and I think it was worth every hard earned penny.

My 760 cost me £380 including delivery. I suppose I was lucky that customs didn\'t notice it so I didn\'t pay any duty. I bought it just a couple of weeks before the 860 was released. I couldn\'t be happier with it.

the link to hi doesn\'t work - I think it should be www2, not ww2, but in any case I get a bad DNS or a not found.  Maybe it is down for maintainence or something.

~Ray & tz -

Sorry, folks. Copied that URL for hi from the program\'s \"About\" but failed to check it. Mela Maxima Culpa.

Found it initially under \"Terminal Tools\" at

   http://www.ayati.com/KOMONO/c7soft.htm  (Japanese)

which links to

   http://www.vector.co.jp/soft/unix/util/se153738.html (also Japanese)

THIS time I just verified that both those were up & available <G>.

If your Japanese reading ability is not very good, you\'ll probably have to Babel Fish the 2nd URL but that one IS the main page for \'hi\'.

 Sorry for the confusion.

Not bad, they\'re great machines, I just wanted a warranty etc. with mine, fingers crossed, I\'ll never need it. ;-)

Big hello to all 200LXers, nice to see that people that are used to real palmtops seem to find their way to a Z.
