Big dream is for this to be the catch all for nursing - email, med admin/patient care apps and a telephone all in your hand.

Neat!  How does the 6000 stack up compared to other handheld alternatives?

BTW, spare batteries do seem to available through pcconnection.com - part number is EA-BL09.  I haven\'t heard anything about an external charger though...

So far the 6k is way more than anything else I\'ve looked at.  Most \"canned\" solutions are based on the Symbol palm and win-ce devices.   Even the Tungsten wifi model (which is very nice) doesn\'t have the screen...

Biggest challenge really is getting the software vendors to understand that when their customers ask for \"web based\" apps it does not mean \"works only with IE 6.3.2.5.2.x on XP with sp1002.a\"...

One of the small joys of my job is watching the face of software salesman x (at the end of his wretched - boring powerpoint) tell me it\'s only $2mil and runs on win 2003 servers and XP clients \"with the correct patches of course - nuge, nudge, wink, wink\".   At which point I say \"pack up your crap and don\'t come back until it runs on ANY browser and your developers figure out that Oracle runs just fine on Linux\".

I haven\'t been able to test the Vo/ip side as yet really.  Our PBX is awaiting an upgrade that will give us that functionality so I\'m lightly scouting SIP client software.  Zmeeting does work nicely though.

I forgot to add, that the zaurus is the most versatile handheld on the market.

You can make it do almost anything you want,(all models) without having to sign up to expensive contracts/NDA\'s.

You want to build your own custom rom?  It will only cost you time nothing more!

To stay on topic, if I had an sl6000 then I would use it to do the same stuff that I use my c760 for, except in portrait rather than landscape

I don\'t actually own a 6000 ($700 US is way too much for a high-school student, especially considering the importing from the US (Canadian, eh?) would cost extra AND the exchange rate, totalling up to probably about $1300 Canadian, as opposed to the approxamate $700 for the 5600 (Canadian, including all the duties, etc.)). Well, after that long sentance, I\'ll get back on my point. I used the 5600 for school organization and for WLAN stuff, like with Kismet, NMAP (don\'t tell CSIS! ), etc. Also of course internet, e-mail, and a little of other things (like image viewing from a digital camera).

And if I owned a 6000? I\'d use it for basically the same thing. Bigger screen, bulit-in Wifi would be nice, but I\'d just it just the same. Kismet, school organization and internet. So it\'s nowhere near worth the upgrade for me.

I\'m really interested in the hospital use of a 6000... That would be very nice once you had it all set up. Everything computerized, and at the tip of your fingers, err... Stylus. But you get my point. I\'m very interested in hearing how this works out for you.
