Hancom Sheets (XLS) not saving formulas
« on: May 18, 2004, 09:43:04 am »
Hancom Sheets appears to be saving some of my formulas but not others.  Instead, it simply strores the resulting number.

In one cell I type:

Code: [Select]
IF(LENGTH(K6)>0,K6,IF(LENGTH(TRIM(G6))>0,L5,L5-I6+J6))

That doesn\'t get saved, but

Code: [Select]
IF(EXACT(Y$3,$F4),$I4,"")

does.

My XLS has 2 worksheets and it accesses information between the to using the \"WorkSheetName!C4\" convention, which works at runtime, but it doesn\'t get saved.

Do I have to save these as \"HancomMobileSheet(*.hst)\" to preserve those functions?  Is there a list of which functions do and don\'t get saved to XLS?

What are all of the limitations of hancom sheets?  I wanted to use it to update XLS files on the go and then bring them back to my computer when needed.  I know that Hancom (appears) to not do any type of charts.  What else?

Never had the problem, I use HST files and only save to XLS if I really really have to (i.e. as a format to exchange with OpenOffice).  If you are referring to Excel functions etc, I\'d imagine only a subset is supported, but I don\'t know the specifics, have you tried the Hancom website for more info?

Those were functions inside Hancom itself.  I figured that Hancom only supported a subset of the XLS functions, so I decided to create the document from the ground up inside Hancom to make sure I don\'t use anything that isn\'t supported...

...but I was surprised when it wasn\'t savings its own functions.

Actually, all of the functions saved just fine when I saved as HST (Hancom\'s own format) instead of XLS (Microsoft Excel format).

I think I\'ve figured it out.  I think that the functions listed as Hancom functions, and only some of these also work in Excel.  All functions that don\'t work in Excel get converted to actual static values when saving to XLS.

So... I need to stick to HSL 100% of the time for this to fully work.  Hm... that\'s a big commitment, since I don\'t have Hancom on my desktop... but I might be willing to do that since I hope that my Zaurus will eventually replace my desktop as my main computer.

Is there a way to do any type of charts in Hancom on the Zaurus?

Nice bit of reasoning my friend, I think you\'ve hit the nail on the head. :-)

I DO use my Z as my main computer, my Debian PC is an entertainment centre now, TV/DVD etc. All my productivity I do on my Z, except printing into PDF files, still only doable on the PC.

As for charts, I\'ve just been talking about that on another thread, it seems we need a charting app and a tool for making presentations too.

Hm... it looks like the full desktop version of Hancom Office actually costs money.  *shucks*...  I would\'ve been okay without graphs if I could do them on the desktop.  Oh well...

You might want to try Opiesheet, or if you\'re willing to run PdaXrom, Gnumeric (you might be able to run this in XQt).

Or as a long shot, you can try convincing Softmaker to port their excellent spreadsheet (which has as close to 100%  interoperability with Excel and other spreadsheets as you can get) to the Z. Good luck though, I\'ve been trying to convince them to port their awesome word processor (Textmaker) over to the Z, but no luck yet (not enough people I guess).

I wonder if Koffice could be ported to Qtopia.  There\'s potentially another option.

Holy heck! I spoke too soon... I havent checked the softmaker forum in a while, and I just looked at it shortly after I posted the above message. Apparently, they ARE porting Textmaker to the Z! Therefore, I would think bugging them for Planmaker (which is currently in beta for PocketPC and Linux) might be a good idea (if you dont mind paying for a superior version!).

Isn\'t OpenOffice or StarOffice open source?  If so, then can\'t it be recompiled for the Zaurus?  I have hard drive space for it... I could spare it.

OpenOffice does all of the charts and I\'ve never had function incompatibility (so far).
