C860 just got What Mobile "Editors Choice".
« on: July 06, 2004, 06:21:30 am »
Loaned a C860 to "What Mobile" magazine to review (August Issue)

The review article itself is quite short, but they really liked it.
Got WhatMobile Editors choice.

They nicked the picture from somethere else though (it's a C760) so I guess they couldn't tell the difference either

Love the the closing statement :

"But if you are a power user, who isn't afraid to be a little adventurous, this is the ultimate handheld to own".

Cool.

Only Hard Copy I'm afraid.

I will ask if I can publish a copy on my site once the issue is out of circulation. I assume they will say no beofre this, since they want to actually sell the magazine

Also loaned a copy to Linux format for review, curious to see what they make of it.

I had a quick word with them the other day and they were complaining that it did not x pre installed and y pre installed.

I was trying to explain that the device was not intended just for systems administrators and developers and so it was upto them to install things like that.

I think (hope) they did like it though.

But, then, *WE* all knew THAT all along, didn't we (G).

Great going, Zuber!

To be honest, I don't think you get much "worth while" support for everyday issues from other PDA manufacturers that would make them much better than the support you get on furums like ZUG.

As for guarantee, apart from taking a few weeks, found repairs have usually been covered without problem.

One area that would be good was better support for the 5500/5600 models from Sharp USA etc. this would help for the C860 etc. as well.

One thing I have never figured out about the price side of it. Everyone complains, but then buys the C860 rather than the C750

BOO! GRRR...

have you never wanted to be elitist? Compared to how much you can overspend on a PC, if you want to, i don't think the Z is too bad.
Gorgeous C860, 256 Sandisk SD, 1Gig Pretec 40x CF, PDAIR leather case & the really cool retractable iPDA USB sync/charge cable. Powered by PDAXROM BETA 1.

My wish - to have a Command & Conquer style game on my Z! (FREECNC!!!) Simcity 2000 would also be great.

Things like this put a smile on my face, nice to see that "this is the ultimate handheld to own", but my friend Miami_Bob is right of course, we knew that.  Great stuff Zuber.  I know people have 'issues' about support, but really for me, as I got mine from ShirtPocket, I have NO concerns there.  I can't see what the fuss is about, if you buy something and it breaks, you go to the supplier, maybe that's different elsewhere, but ShirtPocket will be the first to hear my screams if my Z faffs up.

mmh.. ultimate handheld.. (gargling drool)

roguetrooper, you're damn right and I'm looking forward to getting a C700 to work with my C860

Left Linux and Linux PDAs... sorry, got boring.  Switched to Mac.

I won't mension the number of Graphices cards, hards disks, motherboards, processors, CD/DVD drives my "10 year old" PC has gone through. Some without the wife noticing on most occasions.

Amazing how my daughter’s PC keeps getting mysteriously faster for no reason

Still the same case and floppy disk though (as best as I can rememer). Oh and the Phillips 17" monitor about 7 years old now is still going strong. It is actually sharper than the new 19" monitor I have.

By the way, Linux Format have finished their review.

Not out yet so not read it, but I am curious to see what they make of it.

Hopefully they have forgiven me for not including pre-installed preinstalled ssh and gcc compiler.
