HELP!!!! just got C860 and its locked up
« on: December 13, 2003, 01:52:36 pm »
just received a C860 and used it one day, rebooted it a few times,
installed lots of software, worked fine,
then it got slow  top showed load average of 2.0
and a process apm-idled was taking up all the cpu (as system)
I rebooted, and it went through the shutdown phase but halted near end,
I hard reset it (i.e. battery out),
then i watched it come up to the red SHARP letters for 5 minutes and do nothing,
i hard reset again, do that at 5 times, and finally i think just because maybe i left it for
about 5 min. it went to next screen  (CG Silicon) grey steely screen,
then then it sat for 10 min. and thus i went back to \"hard reset\"
doing that many more time and never getting past red SHARP screen.
Now i am frustrated, so i staart looking at my option for a
reflashing, and i try two approaches posted her about the \"service menu\",
and neith works (which is bad not only for my immediate trouble, but also, how am i going
to flash it with a new ROM later if i can\'t even get to service menu?)
when i follow the D&M method i just get same red SHARP screen,
Is the C680 diff. from the C700/750/760 that much that it has a whole
diff. way to get into service? YIKES!!!
It there something i am missing with respect to a \"hard reset\" ?
I just \"hard reset\" for about the 30 times , and now i get it to go to the next
screen \"CG Silicon\" but again its stuck .
Clearly the C680 is doing something as it is progressing along,
all be it at a snails pace, and rather randomly....
HELP!!
I am wondering if one need to have a flash/sd card in for D&M service
menu to work?
If so can i get one, put files on it (from windows or linux box) and then
proceed to save my Zaurus?

It came back up!!!! had to sit on red Sharp screen for like 8 miin. then on CG Silicon screen for over 10 minutes!!!
wow i hope this isnt a average reboot time!!!
goin to strip out some of the software i added just incase it has issues
JUST CHECKED top it had a load average of 7!!!! the minute over 10 minute average (third colum) the minute i was able to access it,
that measn is struggling on boot up
Holy crap, this is dmesg after boot

cramfs: wrong magic
FAT: bogus logical secrot size ....
...
..
jffs2_scan_inode(): Data CRC failed ....
(a few of theses)
Inode #....
(10 of these)
then some more normal dmesg boot up stuff ....
this sucks, but maybe i am over the hard part now .... ???

APM-IDLED is a process to \"pause\" your CPU for the ticks that it\'s not doing any work, it conserves battery life.

To disable this process would make your CPU battery drain much quicker..

As for your other problems I have no idea I\'m sorry.
