Sd To Cf Adapter
« on: February 23, 2005, 12:19:11 pm »
Hi,
There are currently several sd cf adapters (so you can plug sd card into cf slot) going on uk ebay for about 16 pounds.

This would be really handy for me- my SD cannot be removed without much much hassle, and all my friends have SD phones, mp3 players, etc and my CF is always free.

If you want to have a look heres a link to one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...3875827610&rd=1

They are eagletec ones, cf type II (which I'm sure the Z supports), though it says that they are not suitable for RS-MMC.

What is RS-MMC?
Are these Zaurus compatible?
Is there anything else I should know?
Will it support high speed sd?

Thanks
Simon

OK, I bought one, and yes it works with the Z. It looks like a CF flash card to the Z, and with my new 512mb Kingston High Speed SD card it doesn't do that stupid eject-insert thing (like it does with my Maxell 64mb CF card) on resume. I'm guessing I can flash from it too. I will be doing some benchmarking tests with it soon and will post the results as soon as I get them.

There is one annoyance- it's designed for cameras with an eject button- there is nothing to get a grip on so it's very hard to get out

Put a loop of sticky backed plastic  round the end that sticks out so you can use your stylus to eject.  I had the same problem with a cf hdd

Just a word of warning; I have a SD to CF adaptor that will not work with the Z's.  I don't have it with me right now so I can't post the model details.  If at all possible, try it before buying so you will be sure of compatability.  It doesn't work with my iPaq either, only with the CF reader that came with it (probably has some goofy circuitry to keep it from being more useful).

Vman, from reading your post it seems that this adaptor came with you cf reader solely for this purpose... It seems plausible that there may not even be any electronics in this adaptor it just serves to connect to the sd interface within your card reader.

standalone sd - cf adaptors should work without problems and also such things as smartmedia (someone on the forum has one..) - cf and sony memorystick - cf as these are all hardware implementations and do not require any software.
Gorgeous C860, 256 Sandisk SD, 1Gig Pretec 40x CF, PDAIR leather case & the really cool retractable iPDA USB sync/charge cable. Powered by PDAXROM BETA 1.

My wish - to have a Command & Conquer style game on my Z! (FREECNC!!!) Simcity 2000 would also be great.
