Gprs Over Usb Phone Modem
« on: January 15, 2005, 12:37:46 pm »
I'm having a frustratingly simple problem with using my phone as a GPRS modem via a USB cable connection.

After plugging the V600 using the Motorola data cable, Linux correctly recognizes the device as the following:

Vendor: Motorola PCS
Product: Motorola Phone (V600)
Class: CDC-Control
ID: 22b8/4902
Driver: acm

From other posts, I had gathered that the acm driver indicates it is properly recognized as a modem. However, none of those posts actually had instructions afterwards as to how to dial using the "modem".

I create a Dial-Up PPP network profile in the Network control panel. I use as many proper values as I know for a T-Mobile GPRS service.

No matter what I change, however, the connect button is greyed out, regardless of which profile I have selected.

I'm aware I could be using bluetooth. I do not have a bluetooth card, nor have the capacity to get it properly working on the C3000.

Additionally, I have a Nokia 6610 to which I can try to initialize an IrDA connection. However, that also fails, again with proper settings.

The specific modem settings for both the USB and IrDA connection are...
Obtain everything automatically in terms of networking
"Phone:" *99#
"Init commands:" ATZ+CGDCONT=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"
"Dial using:" Tone
"Use Device Authentication" checked
