Please please please upgrade kdepim to make Zaurus a practical PDA.

My contact and schedule in my PDA and desktop are out of sync! I have to update them twice...

I prefer having RC8 with upgrade kdepim to RC9 with old version kdepim.

Hello,

I'm running pdaXrom RC9 and a debian chroot
I've compiled kopi and kapi 2.0.0 in the debian system
All seems to run nice.
Just changed the config files for icons and the menu to choose "Crd kopi" and "Crd kapi", so now i can launch 2.0.0 instead of the version delivered in the rom (1.9.4).
Will do a bit of testing this evening.

Cheers,
Chero.

Please let us know how this works out. I checked the apt-get for kopi & didn't find it.
Cheers,

It's not in teh debian feed !
I downloaded the sources (2.0.0) from the kdepim sourceforge-page and compiled them on my Z - under debian chroot.
Everything was fine untill I switched cf-cards. X-windows crashed due to this switch. (after 11 hours of compiling)
It had already compiled the necessary libs, "kopi", "kapi" and "kammu".
kopi and kapi seem to work just as they should, never used kammu before.
I'll start compilation again this evening, maybe it will be finished and complete by noon tomorrow.

talk to you later,
Chero

Why do this to yourself !

ok i've crosscompiled kdepim 2.0.1, only minor tweaks were required, i'll post what I've done
on the wiki so that you'll be able to compile it yourself later.

For now it is in the unstable feed.

I'm not sure if it can be installed anywhere but in the root partition.

Just curious if it was possible under debian chroot (and got tired of waiting untill someone else did it.)
It was quite easy under debian, just took a lot af waiting.

Thanks for compiling it for pdaX !!

BTW, it wasn't in the feed when i started compiling - my guess is that you uploaded just before posting here

I guess there will be no need for my results any longer.

You are right, I choose to try to compile it after seeing that some people wanted it a lot and I thought that to install debian was a little overkill.  But I think that I start to compile it after you, cross compilation is much faster (still took >2 hours on my p3 500).

I prefered not to announce that i was going to try before because I would have most probably  been giving up  if things had gone wrong.

Hello,

I installed (ipkg install kdepim because the package manager didn't show kdepim).
This installed kdepim 2.0.1.
So far so good, but
kopi won't start (relocation error ..... _ZN12KSyncManager19mRequestedSyncEventE)
kapi won't start (the same)

Do you know what is missing ?
(as for now, maybe my debian workaround wasn't such a bad idea   )

Did you uninstall previous version of kdepim?

I got this error when kopi was loading previous version of the libs.

Maybe older version stays in ram also? I don't know exactly the mechanism involved with shared libs.

(edit Oh and I never think it was a bad idea, I was impressed by the kind of manipulation you were doing)

As for the package manager I don't know, maybe it doesn't like to find several packages with the same name, when installing kdepim with ipkg, it told me that it requires bluezlibs, though I didn't put any dependencies in the control file.....

I didn't remove first, maybe that's my problem.
locate seems to find two kopi's - neither or them can be started.

About the "bad idea", I was only joking.
I'm impressed with what I can do in the debian chroot and was only compiling for fun - as a test. I also compiled tuxcards 1.2 on it (works great).
My goal is getting "Qgis" to work on pdaX or debian. It's in the debian feed, but doesn't render correctly. Recompiling will take quite long, I guess, but I still want to give it a try. Maybe I should setup the cross-compiler and try to get it running on pdaX first, this might not take that long.
Does the cross-compiler include qt3-libs ?

I remember something about the bluezlibs from previous posts, so this could be right, though I seem to recall that zautrix didn't put any dependancies to it.

Try to make a fresh and clean install this evening.

pgas:
Great work on compiling kdepim for pdaxrom-thanks!

It was a little hairy getting it to install as I had to make enough room in /. Besides the old version of kdepim, I had to remove sylpheed and a few other apps to make room.

If you ever get a chance to break the suite into seperate apps that would be great so those of us with less RAM (C700 & C750 users) don't have to use a shoe horn to get it to fit  .

Thanks again,
Jerry

Not that I tried to install kdepim on my ext2 formatted SD card and it seems to work.

As for splitting kdepim into several ipk, I won't do it but  anybody that now how to:

- copy files from one place to another
- use tar
- edit a text file

can try to do it. making an ipkg is very simple, just a bit boring.

Hi pgas.  I don't suppose you have any idea why kapi (both 1.9.4 and 2.0.1) sits there consuming CPU - about 14% on my 860?
