Security Programs
« on: January 14, 2005, 04:06:14 am »
Hello,

which additional programs do you know to increase the security  (improved Login, encrypting of partitions)? I use so far the little Program "Security" from the "Settings Tab" at the Cacko Rom 1.22 for a Login and "Burp" to the file encrypting.

Which other programs do you know?

Thanks
Lutz

I just saw BestCrypt in the pdaXrom feed.
www.pdaxrom.org

Does this program function also with Cacko?
Do you know other programs?

Are you only looking for encryption apps?  If so you might look at zsafe, pwmanager, and gnupg.

Sorry for my bad english, but I looks for programs, which increase security on my Zaurus.
I search software for login protection for the QtopiaGUI, which works with alphanumeric passphrases and I search encryption apps.

The program "Security" on the "Settings" at the Cacko ROM 1.22 does not have limitation of the input attempts. The program "Security" works only with numbers. That is too uncertain for me.
Does anyone know a better login program for Qtopia?

I look also for encryption apps, which encrypted local files automatically, similar as CryptoLoopDevice or DM-CRYPT. I think "Bestcrypt" (http://www.jetico.com/index.htm#/linux.htm) work similarly. And there is a .ipk package in the unstable feed of pdaXrom. The package bestcrypt_1.4-2_armv5tel.ipk can be installed after remount rw the root device. But the programs does not function with Cacko 1.22.
Error message:
Code: [Select]
# bcnew -a RIJNDAEL -s 30M /mnt/card/testcrypt
bcnew: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
Where do I find the library libstdc++.so.5?

Stupkid, I already use GnuPG but the other programs are not which what I search.

Thanks for your answer
Lutz

Hey Lutz,

I'll take a look at compiling+packaging bestcrypt.  Hopefully it will be an easy compile.

There are some kernel modules etc. required for bestcrypt and it is not compiling for me at the moment.  So, it will take a bit of time.  I did compile bcwipe though and will put that on the feed.

Thank you Stupkid.
I wish you success.

Bcwipe is also an interesting program for the secure deletion of files on SD and CF cards.

Hello,

is there now a functioning package, in order to encrypt and decrypt partitions or file container automatically at the background?

Or can someone give me a HOWTO, how this function can be realized with the packages existing for the Zaurus (Sharp or Cacko Kernel)?

Thanks!
Lutz
