Lithium Ion Batteries
« on: January 22, 2005, 10:56:17 pm »
I have owned a Zaurus SL-5500 for a couple years, but I usually use it hooked up to an AC Adaptor or 4AA battery pack. The main problem I have is that if I switch power sources, I usually have to turn off WiFi and turn the light off, or just suspend or shut down. Otherwise the recharge light will stay on indefinitely. If I bought a new battery, would this help at all or is this normal for 5500 models?

I am also wondering about using unofficial batteries. I opened my Zaurus up tonight and looked at the circuit board and reversing the polarity scares me. Once I put it back together, I noticed that the plastic case could probably be modified pretty easily by most people with a razor blade to extend the battery area by enough to slip a polarity reversing curcuit board type thing between the battery contancts and zaurus contacts. Does this sound feasable? If somebody was willing to make the polarity reversers they could easily get $5-$10 for them since people would still be saving money on the batteries.

I wouldn't even mind using some less powerful li-ion battery in place of the normal one if It recharged faster than the one I have now, but only after the experts of this forum say it is safe.
