Running Without Battery
« on: February 06, 2005, 01:22:39 am »
While at home, I'd like to operate my SL-C3000 "always on".

In order to avoid wearing down the battery (Li-Ion lasts longer
if discharged), I'd like to remove it. The Zaurus isn't very
cooperative about running without battery, but if I remove the
battery while running, and never suspend the machine, this
seems to do the trick. (Never suspending may not be so good
for the display, but I guess I'll be able to fix this once 3rd party
ROMs are available.)

Now, I'm wondering if running without battery may have any ill
effects for the charger circuit. Has anyone tried this kind of setup
for a while ? (I just got my Zaurus yesterday.)

Don`t know the answer to your question but I have discovered that an SL-C3000 won`t boot up at all if the battery is completely drained, even if it is plugged in.  You have to charge the battery for awhile before it will even start to boot.  I thought at first I had bricked the machine because I didn`t realize I had drained the battery.
