Desperately Need Help!
« on: February 18, 2005, 12:29:49 pm »
A long time reader of this forum and finally grabbed my own C860 two weeks ago.  For the past two weeks, I used a RTM-8000 card to access internet via gprs, it worked beautifully.  More pleasantly, the set-up was a piece of a cake, thanks to the new Rom.  Now I will be on a trip tomorrow, and I like to use Socket bluetooth card pairing with my Nokia 3660.  So I rush ordered a Socket bluetooth card (the series number marked as 8510-00159H, does that means this is a rev H type?).  Anyhow, I worked almost entire last night trying to set up the card.  It’s simply just not working.  I 1) read as many as the discussions before in this forum, 2) searched MAC address of the phone using “sdptool browse”, unfortunately, sdptool browse always said “inquiry failed” after one or two seconds.  3) And hciconfig gave nothing (although I really did not know what’s the purpose this command anyway).  4) If I used PAN applet in the network setup (should I use PAN or bluetooth PPP?), after pressing the search button, it said “no device with PAN profile found” although the phone’s Bluetooth was on and it was in “visible to all” state.  5) If I tried paring the C860 from the phone, after long time searching, the phone returns “No Bluetooth device found”.

One more thing I noticed, although I did not do anything with this card yet, by simply just pluging in the card, it draw much more battery power compared to the RTM-8000.  Is this normal?  (for RTM-8000, I can manage to use the card very frequently, but the battery can last entire day without charging, but I need to charge the unit with this card in a few houres).

At this point, I am mindless and get really frustrated.  Sorry for such a long post, and please, any suggestions or tips will be highly appreciated.

Hi Leo,

I own a Socket bluetooth card with exactly that serial number and I don't have any problems with it. As far as I remember the first thing I tried was to look for other bluetooth devices with

hcitool scan

which worked out of the box. Maybe you should try that...

Greetings

This card should be working. You need to check the following:

1. What software packages did you install recently, they could have broken the drivers
2. If you got the card off ebay, it can be simply defective and may need to be replaced..  Check if it work in other PDA or lattop through PCMCIA adapter.

Hi homeridian and maslovsky:

Thanks for the help.  Unfortunately, it is still not working.  When I did hcitool scan, it returns “Device is not available: Success”.  This happens so fast (~ one second),  I did not think it really scans).

I bought the card brand new and I did test it on the PC (win xp).  In PC, at least the card can detection the presence of nokia 3660.  I actually got the mac addresses for the phone and the card from PC, do you think those information helps in terms setting up the card on C860?

Thanks again!

Here is a little more information:

After i insert the card, c860 recognize the card as "Socket bluetooth card v2.5".  But when i do "/etc/pcmcia/bluetooth restart"; it returns:

Shutting down bluetooth... Can't get device info: No such device
Done
Starting bluetooth... syntax error line 4
Done

Any idea what is going on?

Ps: I did not add any other program on this unit yet.  Everything is from 1.22a.

This looks strange to me, there shouldn't be any syntax errors in bluetooth script. Try toreinstall the Hotfix A.  If it doesn't help, try to reflash the ROM.
