Usb Mini A As Host - Adapters
« on: February 20, 2005, 07:24:18 am »
Anyone tried these connectors on the 3000?, I notice Maplin electronics in the UK are selling them.

The blue one (fourth from left) looks like the one to have - USB Micro A Male -> USB A Female, although I'm a little concerned about the bulk of the connector.

What about the red one on the right, would it be better to use the standard Z cable and make that Female presentation ? Do you think this could end up too long with a device cable attached too ?

Finally there seems to be a Female Micro Din to USB Male A (White on the left), feasible as a way of hooking in a standard keyboard when you pop up at a customer site when travelling light? could there be serious power drain questions over this? anyone tried a regular keyboard hooked up like this?

Haven't got my 3000 yet but I might get a range of these to try out.... might be quite cool to have a little pocket sized USB mouse and try to get a USB mouse driver working with X/Qt and PocketWorkstation for those long train trips

this blue one seems interesting. I haven't tried these things. I personnaly own a blackbox cable which works fine with my USB keyboard, memcard reader and digital camera. It seems that there is no driver for a mouse in the Qt nor in debian by default so i've not been able to make a mouse move ..  unfortunately

for using a mouse via the USB host port check out This Thread.

It was on a SL6000L, but I think it may work for the C3000 too.

The Maplin connector doesn't work with the SL-C3000 USB host. Got hold of one today, absolutely no response from my USB pen drive

It doesn't ground the 5th pin that tells the Zaurus to go into USB host mode - I bought one myself, found it didn't work so took it apart. 's a bit too small and fiddly to fix unfortunately.

Has anyone found a reasonably priced UK supplier of something that does work yet?

My only problem with blackbox.fr is that they charge a lot for shipping. I wish I could find a alternative in europe just because of that.

as i've said, i own the blackbox cable and it works fine with my usb keyboard (sony qwerty) as well as with my usb mouse (sony for playstation2) as well as with my digital camera (minolta z2) as well as with my usb SD card reader (sandisk cruzer).

i haven't been able to find something cheaper than blackbox for delivery in france [search in electronic local store / googling a lot and two friends of mine googled a lot for help too]. There seemed to be an adapter from hama on a german web site but there was no way to get this reference in france.
i asked specialized sites like conrad.fr [they can build the cable you ask for in general] and they had no way to build such a cable... so i've paid the 16euros blackbox were asking for delivery (strange delivery by the way but efficient  two days and very good contact on phone)

Well, I tried to order from them today, but the site doesn't seem to recognize my credentials. I registered, but it keeps claiming I am not logged in. I'll have to try tomorrow.

I successfully tried it with an Microsoft (!) usb mini-mouse, and with my Qsonic Xdrive (sort of mobile hard disk with battery)
i plugged a little usb mini hub to it first.
