Japanese Email Client For C3000

I have 'switched' my C3000 to Japanese, but still retain the Japanese IME. I'm able to write documents in Japanese and also read emails sent to me that are written in Japanese.

However I have noticed that if I send an email that contains Japanese, the recipient just gets a bunch of where the japanese chracters should be.

I've looked into it and the Content-typeis set to:

text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I can't find any way to change the encoding when I send or write emails using the default email client.

Does anyone know a work-around for this or can anyone recommend another email client I could use that supports Japanese?

I'm assuming you mean that you switched to English. What method did you use?

If you didn't change the locale, I would expect that the email should be sent in the proper encoding.

If you did change the system locale (to something other than japanese), and you want to be able to use Japanese and Japanese-only programs, I would suggest switching it back. You can then use a script, such as Stubear's, to convert applications to show English menus and such, while still maintaining a proper Japanese-supporting environment.

You're right, I meant that I switched my C3000 to english. I did this by changing the locale, and installaling some unicode fonts.

I then had to install a japanese IME applets to get back a japanese input method.

I don't have any trouble using the japanese Zdict, though the menus are in english (but that's perfect for me .

I haven't heard of Stubear's script, can you give me some pointers to it?

Basically, it edits the application .desktop files and hides the japanese text strings, and moves the japanese .qm string files to a 'hidden' directory. This causes the built-in apps to display English.

I highly recommend this method over the "en locale + unicode font" method. If you install new software and it shows up in Japanese, often you can get English by moving/deleting the associated .qm file from the /home/QtPalmtop/i18n/ja directory.

ashikase, thanks for the useful info. I followed your advice and 'undid' the changes I had done and instead used teh convert.sh script. It all worked great! My email now can send text in Japanese.

The only problem I have though is that my movie player is not displaying text correctly. Actually it's all just a bunch of ?

Any ideas how I can get it to displayin english?

I had a quick look in /home/QtPalmtop/i18n/ja and the only .qm files are:

libcrim.qm libjpnktnpad.qm libjpnsympad.qm libjpn50pad.qm and libjpnnumpad.qm

All of those are input methods so I don't think they are related to the movies player.

Fixed it! I had forgotten to download the .qmid files as per the instructions!
