Gpe Ir Keyboard.
« on: March 03, 2005, 01:12:54 am »
Does GPE (or Oz/X11 generally)support ir keyboards? will it in 3.5.3 if not .3.5.2? If so, does it support Belkin?

I am amazed that a search turned up nothing on this subject..

After much searching and inquiries....   no, irk does not go w/ gpe.  xirk isn't available.
It seems for a look a debian that lirc is the thing to use.

This querstion is pretty specific.

Has anyone succeded in using an ir keyboard on OZ gpe?

Is it reasonably possible?

And, while on input devices,   mice?  does gpe support mice?

I currently use both on sharprom, and in xqt when xforwarded into another box -- I think kdrive/gpe is going to be a much better combo than qtopia/xqt, but it is really nice to have mouse and keyboard. really nice.

Am I a lone idiot howling in the wilderness (regarding this--we'll leave out a more general analysis, ok?)?  Has everyone either solved this or renounced comfy desktop input, and decided that I just don't need to know?

Somebody mentioned that ir is basically a serial interface and that the way to get it working was to point kbdism at whatever tty the ir was using. Didn't help me much. Maybe some searches of X stuff using this idea would be fruitful for you? I didn't get far, but that was a while ago.  Now I don't use my ir with pdaxrom due to probably the exact same issues

According to this page ( http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/kbdd ), kbdd needs the keybdev and uinput kernel modules, but they are not availiable in OE for now.

Their integration seems to require some work, but developpers will try to add it in next OZ release.

So wait and see.

Looking forward to it, so far external keyboards of any kind on an X based rom on the 6k has been a lamentable thing.

would this also possibly mean external mice/keyboards running in the fbvnc debian gui? that would be good news for opie, too, I think.

Kbdd uses the kernel uinput system, so applications will see no difference between the internal keyboard and the external one.
