Nand Restore
« on: March 04, 2005, 12:47:08 pm »
hi,
After apply some changes on my sl6000L, i've got obligation to restore the nand. I delete my nand (clear my rom) by error. I put syst0006.dbk on two differents CF format in fat. When i try to restore nand, i got "not exist file".
Someone have ever got this problem and find a solution?

I've read the zaurus can't read the good file on some CF:
<<However, when you get to the point where you want to restore the backup, the unit simply says the "file does not exist". It is there, it is valid, but the retore software just does not see it. We don't have a clear picture as to which cards will or will not give this problem. Only way to test that we know of is to try and restore it.>>
 thank for any answer

I have heard of this before. Some posts indicate that some CF cards just won't work for restore from the system menus even though they work well as CF cards when running Linux on the Z.

Scan a few of the posts and follow their instructions that show you how to make sure that you have a proper partition table with a single FAT16 partition... this is important and it may be a factor that some storage cards arrive with the file system written across the whole card with no standard partition table... there are posts that tell you how to fdisk and mkdosfs to achieve what you need.

Alternatively try an MMC or SD card but make sure that you don't have the CF card in at the same time because the Z will use CF if it is there and ignore MMC/SD.

I have same experience with my stock Kingston ElitePro 512MB CF card. It works all fine in file transfer, update kernel, etc. The only problem is in the NAND menu, it reports "CF card can't be initiated".

I'm just too lazy to format it. Will report if fdisk and format will give different results.
