Wow, I tried the 3.5.3 pre-release, and was able to get much
further with it, compared to the .1 and .2 I tried in the past.  I also need to use
a WEP key, but I didn't get that far yet . (will use linksys CF WIFI card)

If the soon-to-be GPE version allows me to use my SL-5500 as an
X server at work, I will be very happy!  I have played with PocketWorkstation
a little, and got that working, but only over USB.

Anyway, great work so far!

Hello,

Very nice pre-release. I switched from pdaxrom to 3.5.3-pre, the c7x0-image, yesterday, and it looks very good. I have a c860, btw.

No issues yet. Suspend works(via menu). My microdrive wakes up again (it didn't under pdaxrom). No error messages yet, all the apps i have tested worked just fine.

The fonts are quite small on the console, maybe using one with a better readability at that size is something to think about

The connection to my gentoo-box does not work right now. The zaurus is not recognized correctly. No network connection, no ping.

I noticed that the 2.6-kernel used in this release contains all the io-schedulers. Maybe one is enough in the case of a pda, so taking out the as-scheduler is an option.

Unless i am not mistaken, there seems to be missing an updater.sh, i had to work aorund to install the image(used an updater.sh from oz 3.5.2), but for the kernel i had to use an updater.sh from pdaxrom, after starting oz with the pdaxrom kernel(a no go, device management was impossible, no devices, no input).

The default is small - you can change this by editing the profile and changing the font size.

Really? What was wrong with the OZ updater.sh? Perhaps you misnamed your kernel (I installed both the kernel and image using the updater.sh from OZ 3.5.2).

Thje PID:VID of the usb device have changed with the 2.6 kernel, therefore you'll need to make the same alterations as you made before, but changing the numbers (actually, I'm suprised it doesn't work 'out of the box', I'll do some testing.

Yes, found that out the normal way, looking at the session profiles.

I did not check it several times, i just tried it one time. The name was right probably.
If no one else reports this, i guess it was my fault then, the name was wrong.

Maybe it has something to do with the partitioning of the NAND, i customized it when installing pdaxrom.

I only compiled usbnet with support for stock Zaurus ROMS, i will test some other support settings.

I may report back on that Monday. Before that i will get me some docs, and study them.

This may not be the right area but if you just tell me where to start looking I would appreciate it. My issue is before I knew better I installed the pdaxrom and did something I believe with the NAND on my c750 then I discovered OZ which I  plan on always using the team behind OZ are awesome and the distro is current and great for what I use it for (mostly security tools). So what is the best way to use the NAND for OZ and how do I do it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey CoreDump this pre-release is awesome it fixed the mp3 playback problem I was having with opie-player2. A couple of small issues to report. I am using an SL-5000 the original developer ones..

1. The url http://oz.hentges.net/snapshots/ is no longer working, http://www.oz.hentges.net/snapshots/ is working instead. The feed url had to be changed accordingly in ipkg.conf

2. Package Manager crashed with a SIGSEGV when trying to install a package, the one I tried was opie-mediaplayer2-skin-default. Command line ipkg install worked.

3. Installing opie-mediaplayer2 via ipkg, the media player launcher didnt appear immediately, had to launch it via terminal. The launcher appeared later automagically.

This is common with any package _not_ installed from the opie package manager...

Opie must be restarted after a package is installed (and ipkg-link'ed in the case it is not installed to root) before the launcher icons show up.

The URL works fine here. Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Some last-minute changes went into opie-pm. They may have fixed the crash-bug.

opie-mp2 had some recent fixes as well.

You can use the pdaXrom updater.sh and tools.tar.gz (is that the right name?) tools to change the partition sizes back to somethiing which works.

I've tried out pdaXrom and messed about with the partition sizes in my travels.

I don't think it matters what size the root partition is, so long as the initrd.bin image will fit on it.

I'm running with:

/dev/mtdblock2 25600 * 1k blocks (root)
/dev/mtdblock3 32768 * 1k blocks (/home)

according to 'df'. I'm not sure that adds up to 64Mb. Hmm.

Anyway, it might help you.

That leads to another question what would be the right partion sizes for an OZ install on a C-750? what size for /home and /root ? Thank you for your time and help.

The connection via usb cable works now. I had to compile CDC-Ethernet support in, under USB-Network Multi-purpose (Sorry, I don't have my box here, so i have to use the information from my memory). I was able to ping and to ssh into my Zaurus.

Then i tried to use MidnightCommander on my box to make a shell link, in order to copy stuff onto my CF-card. It started fine, but i wasn't able to finish, the connection was lost. Most probably this is a problem with my Zaurus, on the hardware side, or the cable.

BTW, is there an option (and where is it) to use the Zaurus as a cardreader, i mean, to expose the CF-Card as a share vie the USB-Cable (like in pdaxrom)?

@altais: See my post above your one. I'd just split the available space in half and be done with it.

@HardenCoonor: Yes, it is possible, however I've not got round to writing a GUI for it yet, so you have to use my start_net.sh and start_storage.sh scripts to run it. Search the forum, you'll find the scripts, if you need the storage_fd.o module drop me a line and I'll send it to you.

Also on the subject of the missing timezones:
You can install the timezone packages to root with:
   ipkg install timezones-africa_1.2.0-r1_arm.ipk (etc.)
Even so, at least one city (Toronto, Canada) doesn't have proper data. To fix problems like this you can:
   cd /usr/share/zoneinfo/America
   ln -s Montreal Toronto
However, since existing cities in the same timezone may have different filesizes, I don't know how good a solution this is.
