How so?  don't most wifi hotspots employ dhcp?

Yes they do, but we're talking about a home WLAN.

Ah, yes...  You are certainly correct about that.

My home LAN uses only static addresses, and I even set the AP to only allow specific MAC addresses as well.

Can't be too carefull
