Targus IR Keyboard for 5600?
« on: January 16, 2004, 09:04:52 pm »
So it looks like the driver found at pocketop.com (irk .10) will allow you to use the Targus IR Keyboard. Is this true?
I am a little reluctant to get the micro innovations keyboard due to the small space bar and other complaints I have seen. Any comments?
Can you rotate the 5600 screen to use it in landscape while using these keyboards?
Thanks, Brad.

I have irk.10 on my 5500 and it has the Targus board as an option. Haven\'t tried it myself and Craig\'s website is down for docs.  I ended up ordering a pocketop on ebay (~40 USD).  Check for 5600 rotation here

Just letting everyone know that it the Targus Wireless Keyboard works on the 5600. You have to go to Pocketop.net and download the 0.10 driver there. Brad.

I have both of these keyboards.
PRO:
Pocketop is minute and easy to pack, wonderful key combos to open apps, can find at extreme sale price, if you can find at all.
Targus has a real keyboard layout/feel w/separate number keys, jog dial that works.

CON:
Pockettop is minute, some extreme, non-intuitive key combinations needed for punctuation. If you are using the Z w/AC connection the connector causes Z to lean. ( I found that \"sticky-tack\" worked well to stabilize everything.
Targus is larger than Pocketop, but still transportable. Higher price.

I have chosen the Targus over the Pocketop. For several reasons, the keyboard layout, the more secure way of holding the Z, and it seems to be a little easier/faster to setup.

I have not tried the Targus in landscape, and I don\'t know how that would really be done, unless you can rotate the screen 270, because of the IR port being on a swing arm that can not be positioned to point at the port in the \"normal\" left-hand 90 turn.
I own a 5500, but assume that these will all be similar issues with the 5600.

BTW,
I tried the Targus in the store. As I set it up, the employee said, \"Oh, you\'ll need to transfer the program from the CD.\" Of course, I just Targus from the IRK setup and started typing. He was highly impressed!

So I cannot find a rotation software that allows the 5600 to rotate 90 (so the IR works with the Targus). Does anyone have any suggestions for us folks who have to use Sharps ROM since no alternative stable rom exists for the 5600 (that I am aware of). Thanks

It seems that Pocketop is now charging $10 to download the IRK driver from their website,  pocketop.net.   So is it true that IRK 0.10 can no longer be downloaded for free?

I didn\'t give them permission to charge for the Zaurus driver - they\'re not allowed to, and I\'ve just mailled them about it.

Hmm...  I can\'t download the 0.10 version of the IRK driver from the ZUG server;  it says I don\'t have permission (however, I can download the 0.092 version).  The pocketop.net site won\'t let me download it either,  as it has a broken link or something.  Is anybody else having this trouble?  Is there any other place I can download this driver?  I bought the Targus keyboard.  Thanks.

Which Targus IR keyboard works for the Z (5500)?  I was just looking at them on Amazon and they\'re all for IPAQ or Clie or something else -  not Z.
