Qpegps Problems

Hey, Pazu_Z, thanks for stepping in.  I see that your reply is your first, thanks!  Welcome to the community.  I really appreciate your help.

First, several things.  When I first reflashed, the card was recognized as a Bluetooth serial device, or something like that.  'Cause I have no use for anything bluetooth, I removed any BT packages, and now the card is detected as a 'Serial or Modem'.  Not that that has any effect on anything; I just can't comment out anything; the files don't exist.

Now, gpsd won't give me any nmea data, as it did before, I don't know what change i made to make it stop.  Before, it gave me the correct latitude and longitude, date, etc, now, it gives me nothing....The led starts flashing after a few seconds (I point it at my window, and I live in a very rural area) but i don't get any data...It seems foolish to proceed with qpegps without my gpsd working.

suid: I was using the OZ qpegps + the dependant gpsd, but switched to the sourceforge one (9.2.3, pre had no binaries available) after learning they had binaries...thanks for the tip.

Thanks for all the help guys!

bkudria,

Thanks for your welcome. That your CF starts flashing means it is working and getting a fix. Have you already tried zGPS (http://www.travellingkiwi.com/zgps/zGPS_Download.html)? I know there are no maps for it, but at least it will give you lat/long -- and you can use it to see if the problems lies with qpeGPS rather than gpsd.
On the other hand: It really seems that OZ and gpsd don't like each other. Maybe you should consider reflashing the ROM and reinstall everything. With Sharp or Cacko ROM, everything should be fine ... but that's up to you.

Best,

Well, some success.  I tried using gpsd from the latest qpegps from sourceforge, and this worked with the qpegps from the OZ-provided feeds.  I could not get qpegps from sourceforge to work at all.  the whole problem seems to be with libraries.  qpegps from SF complains about missing libraries, and gpsd from SF reports the completely wrong long/lat (the SF version actually works and gives me data), due to floating-point errors, I assume.  qpegps works with it, though.   It seems that I need a version of gpsd and qpegps (the latest versions from SF) compiled against the OZ libraries in the feeds now.  I tried using oz-compat, but that didn't help.  If anyone could build such an ipk (I don't have a BB/OE/Whatever environment, I'm on dialup with a really low cutoff time) or if one of the OZ devs could step in and assure me that the imminent 3.5.3 will include the latest qpeGPS and their special version of gpsd, I would be very happy.

Pazu_Z:  I think I can still get this working with OZ, I seem close.  I have heard horrible things about Sharps' ROM, and Cacko isn't available for 5600's.  Maps are sort of a nescessity, and zGPS really doesn't look stable/finished enough for my needs.  Thanks for pointing it out, though!

Sorry to disappoint you, but one of the policies in OE is to not support unnecessary forks. I'd rather see the qpegps and gpsd folks talking to each other than to ship different versions of gpsd.

There is surely a way to fix the apps isn't it?

I believe i heard mention somewhere that the qpegps guys had merged their changes 'upstream'?  It looks like it would solve a lot of problems.
