Package Manager In 3.5.2
« on: March 27, 2005, 05:24:02 pm »
I've just been doing some experimenting.  I installed 3.5.2 (OPIE), all seemed to go well.  I nstaled a few packages via Wifi and it worked great!  But had difficulty getting konqueror working.

Then I tried GPE, but i was not too happy, so i decided to go back to Opie.  (I could not get the packages to install at all with GPE, i really wanted firefox  )

But now the feeds that were set up in package manager are not there.  i don't know what i did last time to populate the servers, it certainly was nothing manual.

Any idea how to populate the servers box?

Also, what is the devel feed?  I need to install libstdc++ and pcre (to get konqueror working - I have been forum searching!!  )

Thanks in advance.

The feeds for OZ3.5.2/Opie are:

src/gz Base http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.2/feed/base
src/gz Console http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.2/feed/console
src/gz Devel http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.2/feed/devel
src/gz Libs http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.2/feed/libs
src/gz Opie http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.2/feed/opie
src/gz Unknown http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.2/feed/unknown

You can either add each one in manually to Opie Package Manager in the Servers tab of the configuration dialog (make sure and check the 'Compressed Feed' item for each one), or copy and paste the lines above directly into /etc/ipkg.conf.

For konqueror, install libpcre first.  Then install konqueror with the Force Depends option ('ipkg install konqueror -force-depends' if working from the command line).

Also, you might want to subscribe to the openzaurus-users mailing list and/or check out its archives.  This and many other questions have been answered before.  The links to the mailing list archive and subscription page are on the openzaurus.org site.

Thanks for the hint about the openzaurus-users mailing list, i will track it down.

In fact thanks for all the above!!

I've now noticed that ALL of the configuration has been lost from the package manager.  Including the destinations, proxies, etc, which were set up and working earlier.

Looks like I have some work to do!

Well, if you have a 5500 and a SD card, you can just take the hentges rom.
http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/oz3...opie1.1.7.shtml
You have to read the cardfs howto.
It has and installer, that searchs your card, then asks you to format it to ext2. You type ok (not the ok button), then it asks you to install the software to card. Then you will get all these apps:
http://www.hentges.net/misc/zaurus_look.shtml
There is also a possibility to ext some parts of the file system to your card (you can read it in the cardfs howto).
Well it brings a lot of features not included in the official release, aslo AFAIK and refering to the screenshots the compat-libs.
So you can run opera on the rom, for example this one:
http://me.256k.net/zaurus/opera/
Or you take the one from MrSquishy from this thread, that is newer:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10612
The hentges rom is build from the scratch with the OE buildsystem, so there is no "dirty hack" there.
Edit: here is the features list:
http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/doc..._features.shtml
Maybe this helps!
Cheers,
Sam

Installation went great.  Opera, however, does not seem to want to run.  It just exits.  Running from the command line gives...

symbol lookup error: ./opera: undefined symbol: _7QString.shared_null

I think others have the same problem, so I'll hunt around for an answer.  Thanks a lot.

EDIT: Got it!  - Thanks again.

Hi TSG,
the compat-libs dont work automagically.
1) Install opera (you seem to have done this)
2) Go to the settings tab
3) Click on the Libraries Icon, you can see below:
[img]http://www.hentges.net/misc/pics/subapplet.png\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]
(It is the one with 2.95, 3.3)
4) Now it is intuitive, it asks you for the tab, where opera is installed, I think you have to choose apps
5) Now you should be able to choose opera from the pull down menu
6) Then a "are you sure" dialog comes -> okay

There we go, have fun.
