C860 With Battery And Other Mood Problems

My C860 has been working just fine for a few months.  One night I left it on and plugged in to charge the battery.  In the morning, I discovered its screen was dark, and found I'd not in fact plugged the cable all the way into the back of the Zaurus.

And the C860 wouldn't turn on.  I'd plug it in and the orange LED would be on for a few minutes then it'd start to flash.  Hmm.  This has an EA-BL08 battery.

I got the EA-BL06 battery out of my SL-5500 after having the 5500 charge it for a few minutes.  (In retrospect I never saw the 5500 claim that the battery actually had a charge in it.)  I put the battery in the C860 and turned it on---and up it came!  I plugged the power in, and the orange LED came on and the little task-bar battery image started scrolling green.

I left it for a few hours, and came back and unplugged the power.  "Change the battery!" shouted the dialog window, and the battery on the task bar suddenly had a single pixel's width of red for its power.  This has remained true of the EA-BL06 battery no matter how long I leave it plugged in to charge.

I've done a few iterations of alternating the batteries, but no success.  I tried the approach of taking out the battery, pushing the battery lock switch so it's off, and holding down Fn+D+M while inserting the AC power again.  Up came the diag & maintenance screen I've heard about.  But I'm unable to move on that screen or select anything.

I've seen mention of the charging circuit being problematic, at least in the C760.  Is this still true of the C860?

I am starting to remember how I'd listen to some podcasts in the morning, pause it and hit the power button, then a few hours later I'd turn it on and see the battery had fallen way down.  At first I thought it was because I left my headphones plugged into it, or that it had been paused and not actually stopped.  But I now realize it may have been more that the battery was holding less and less of a charge.  Until it's now lost all of it, and can't be recharged by the Zaurus.

Would getting an external battery charger like the CE-BC22 really make a difference?

Any suggestions?

I bought mine from somebody off Ebay  , and it does the same thing.  I have tried 2 different chargers, and the usb charger, no dice.  I am planning to send my c750 to japan to have it fixed, has anyone done this?    Could you tell me about it, like how much it cost, how long it took, and exactly where you sent it?

Sending it is easy. Getting it back is hard. Sharp Japan will accept packages for warranty service from anywhere, but they will only ship to a Japanese address when they've finished. Warranty from outside of Japan has to be proxied through someone in Japan.
