Squares In Sljisho With Cacko 1.22...
« on: April 02, 2005, 02:09:11 pm »
... but I installed the japanese-support from the feed correctly. Also I set lcfont and helvetica as described in the cacko-japanese-faq.
sljisho has no font selection. What font does it take? And where can I get it?

Did you change your locale to "ja"?

I don't think that sljisho will show kanji with the locale set to "en" and the fonts you have selected. (But I could be wrong cause I've always had my locale set to "ja" and never tried to changes stuff when set to "en")

What method are you using from the FAQ to get the Japanese characters? If you're using zstyle, what happens when you bring up the CRIM and try to draw a Japanese character? Do you have mojibake (the little boxes) or does the character show correctlly in the CRIM before you hit enter? Do you have Japanese characters showing in any programs, or do all of them have the problem?

Of the 4 methods I found for simultaneous Japanese/English characters 2 let you leave the locale in "en" (Use zstyle to force the fonts, or delete the helvetica fonts). The 3rd is the zh_TW locale, and the 4th is change to the "ja" locale and use your script to translate it.

If I use "en" then the automatic postcode to address thing doesn't work in the Sharp Addressbook app (I use this to speed up input of Japanese addresses then import them to KA/PI).

Using zh_TW gave me really small fonts in the terminal and certain other apps.

Haven't tried zstyle cause that would most probably give me the postcode problem again, but if you don't need that then it's probably the best bet for Cryssli

I´m using ZSTYLE and the locale is set to english. If I am remembering right, on Cacko 1.21b i used not zstyle but the conversion script. There I´had no squares in CRIM and jisho.
If I draw a character in Cackp 1.22 I get also squares. The Texteditor also. I think all apps have this problem.

That means zstyle wasn't working for you. You have to install zstyle, reboot, change the application font to lcfont, restart qtopia.
