Which Bt For C3000? Cf Or Sd?
« on: April 03, 2005, 10:16:56 pm »
Been looking at BT cards for the Z C3000... just wondering which one of these is the best to get in terms of working with new bluez stack and battery life?

Planning to connect it to sonyericsson T630 for GPRS.

- Socket Pocket PC Bluetooth SD Card
- Socket CF Bluetooth Card
- Blue Monkey CF Bluetooth Adaptor
- AnyCom Blue CF-300 Compact Flash Card
- Belkin Bluetooth PDA CF Card

thanks in advance!
C3000 - Debian EABI - Kernel 2.6.23 of Angstrom

I hope the Socket CF cards work okay, as I've got a couple of them in the mail.  I've heard good things about them. I don't know much about BT and the Z yet otherwise.

I don't think there are any drivers that will work with SD BT cards at all. (In fact, the only two networking SD cards that I know of that will work in the Z are the C-guys SD Wi-Fi card with their beta driver, and an AirH cellular card in Japan. That's it. The only other thing you can stick in the SD slot is flash memory cards).

So does anyone know the bluemonkey CF card works ok with C3000 and the new bluez stack?

It depends which bluemonkey card you mean.

The card was shipped for ages as an OEM of the LSE039 card from Natinal Semiconductor. Then Expansys (who I believe own the Bluemonkey name) decided that it would be appropriate to brand an entirely different card with that name using a completely different chipset (CSR intead of Nat Semi).

The older card uses bluecard_cs drivers and I'm using one in my 3000 - works perfectly with Sharp ROM (need to add Tumnus' package for the 3000) and also with the new ROM that uses tetsu's Kernel for now (tetsu's kernel modules are built into initrd and the Cacko Bluetooth scripts/utilities/daemons are in the ROM)

Haven't got the other card to test with.

Incidentally a lot of the issues around getting bluetooth cards working on the Zaurus are related to scripting the manipulation of the card (suspend/resume/insert/eject) and ensuring that not only the approprirate drivers are loaded but the right daemon services are running etc.. I believe the new Bluemonkey card has to be addressed as a CF Serial IO card which isn't the case with the LSE039 card - this again is down to having the right bluetooth scripts set up to get all the modules loaded (and unloaded) for a particular card on hotplug and on suspend/resume.
