Pdaxrom Rc9 Broke My Zaurus
« on: April 10, 2005, 09:49:05 am »
Ever since I reflashed from RC8 to RC9 my Z just stopped working and I can't do I thing with it

I tried reflashing RC9 3 times but still the same problems... -nothing- works apart from the screen rotate and the suspend function, apart from that I can't open a single program.

I wanted to put RC8 back on but it's useless without the ipk feed for RC8.
I tried searching google for a way to force Windows Mobile 2003 onto my Zaurus but there is nothing that tells you how to do it.

I really hope RC10 will work and not bugger up my Z as RC9 did... Been waiting for ages for it now, is there any news on when it will be available for download?

Thanks...

How can you say:

RC9 Broke My Zaurus
and then say:

works apart from the screen rotate and the suspend function, apart from that I can't open a single program.

I have rc9 on my 760 and it works great.  Maybe you can explain in a little more detail what troubles you are having... ie. what apps aren't launching, what errors are you getting, etc.

i said "nothing works" not "works"    *grumbles*

My Z just doesn't like RC9 for some reason, i have no idea why and i can't be arsed reflashing to RC9 after putting RC8 back on just to remember the problems. I'll wait for RC10

Hi Wolfi ....

What did you do to make it a useless brick?

My c860 works fine with RC9 (RC9.1) ... I love it very much :-) waiting now for Release version or maybe another RC(10) ... I hope to have it soon ...

Did you repartition / format your flashmemory ?

ok, after reflashing back to RC9 everything is working fine... i just actually took the time to see if it was working before going and performing an ipkg upgrade.

never going to use that command on RC9 as that is what buggerd up it in the first place as i have just found out.

On another point... there are some programs that I installed from the RC9 feed in package manager that do not place a shortcut in say "Other" where the hell are my programs installed and how to I create a new shortcut for said programs?  Really annoying when it's not done for you during install, some programs do but most don't >.<

I installed the btscanner and can't find it anywhere... silly unix file system

Will list all instances of btscanner on the Z (included mounted CF / SD cards)

hi guys

i also have a similar problem with my zaurus

a half year ago i installed RC9 and all worked fine

but yesterday i upgraded with "ipkg upgrade" witch causes all the phyton-scripts with gui to exit with a Segmentation fault:
"(inputconfig.py:328): Pango-WARNING **: No bueltin or dynamically loaded modules were found. Pango will not work correctly. This probably means there was an error in the creation of:
         '/etc/pango/pango.modules'
You may be able to recreate this file by running pango-querymodules."

running pango-querymodules also doesn't solve the problem so I think there is a fault in the pango package

this failure also occure by running the scripts lightpower.py, locknfeel.py, network.py, datentime.py and usbfunction.py
and the programs abiword, gaim and sylpheed
also the taskpanel CF/SD Monitor doesn't work correctly

is there any ability to downgrade the system or to solve the problem with the pango package???

hi,
today evening I thought one more time to my zaurus pango problem and wondered the output messages of "pango-querymodules".

I came to the solution to redirect the output into the configuration file "/etc/pango/pango.modules". But it is useful to backup the old configfile before overwriting it:
mv /etc/pango/pango.modules /etc/pango/pango.modules.backup
pango-querymodules >> /etc/pango/pango.modules

ciao

That's just the conclusion I reached since finding that even look 'n' feel won't work, let alone Firefox, and seeing that pango.modules is zero length.

It's a stupid message - because running pango-querymodules doesn't create this file at all.  I'm sure it's obvious to hardened un*xers but a little more explanation would go a long way.
