Startup Screen Pic
« on: April 11, 2005, 09:41:17 pm »
OK I've searched and can find instruction on how to change the Startup screen pic for the 5000 series...

But I can't figure out how to do it on my C3000...

I have a 640 x 480 pic ready on my compact clash but don't know what to do.
Can anyone help this newbie?

Thanks

Hi there,
Like the 5000 & 6000 series Zauri, first of all you need to rotate the image 90-degree clockwise. Then ensure the image is a 480x640 24-bit BMP.

Then, as root, save the file as Startup_screen.bmp and copy to /home/QtPalmtop/pics overwriting the existing file there (You might want to copy the existing file for backup first!).

Finally, create a new symlink to it in /home/QtPalmtop/pics144

That's it! I've attached the screen I use on my Zaurus SL-C3000...

Well I figured out where the pic was stored before your reply and copied my bmp into that folder replacing the original pic with the pic of my choice.

Now is there an easier way to do it other than using terminal? (gui interface?)
Also I still don't know what symlink means...????

Just downloaded your pic and love it! here is the pic I currently have on mine!

Hi there!
I'm glad everybody likes the logo I created. As to your questions, the easiest way to do this is to use TreeExplorerQT, this is a little program similar to Windows' Explorer which is invaluable to the Zaurus user.
TreeExplorerQT lets you view the entire Zaurus file structure, and easily create symlinks. Symlinks are basically shortcuts like those in Microsoft Windows.
Using TreeExplorerQT, if you copy the Startup_Screen.bmp file you placed in /home/QTPalmtop/pics then navigate to /home/QTPalmtop/pics144 and select 'Paste Symlink' from the Edit menu the program will automatically create the symlink/shortcut.

You can download TreeExplorerQT from: http://hpcgi2.nifty.com/taku2001/zau/texplorerqt/top_en.cgi

Hope this hels out,

KEWL!

OK for anyone who had previously installed and then uninstalled Tree!Explorer because you had alot of boxes in the menu listen up.

Select the V, then select language and then select english.  All the boxes will disappear and you will have nice english words, well if you are looking for english, otherwise select the language of your choice!

Thanks

I just stuck the attached Startup_screen.bmp in /home/QtPalmtop/pics144. Don't have it in /home/QtPalmtop/pics (??)
