usb connection dosen\'t work with OZ.
« on: January 19, 2004, 05:49:32 am »
HI,
Before installing oz 3.3.6-pre1 I could connect with Linux and windows with USB without problem, but now with OZ 3.3.6  the USB is not  recognized by linux and windows, and I could transfert files on Zaurus.

OZ 3.3.6 doesn\'t work fine, on the screen there are every 1 o 2 seconds the kernel messages. It\'s not possible to use zaurus in this way beause for each new message the screen is move up for one row.

someone can help me?
I\'d like to install 3.3.5 but I don\'t know to insert files on CF.

Michele

What machine is this? Looks like you\'ve flashed with a debug kernel or something similar.

To solve your usb problems, firstly read the many other posts on the problem, and then remove the current hotplug ipk and install the one from the 3.2 stable feed.

Now, how you get it on there is another question. Do you have an ethernet or WiFi card? IR support - beaming, a card reader?

There has been talk about both of these issues. To get an USB connection, you have to reboot your Z while it is in the cradle. This is a bug with the hotplug package and Mickey has advised to replace it with hotplug from OZ 3.2. I followed that advice and now USB is without problems. You can find the 3.2 hotplug in http://www.openzaurus.org/official/stable/feed.

As for the kernel message problem, there is a known workaround: open the Konsole and enter

echo 1 ] /proc/sys/kernel/printk

ideally, you want to include this line in some startup script so that it gets executed after reboot...

Is this for a particular machine as I certainly don\'t need this on my 5500?

I entered echo 1 ] /proc/sys/kernel/printk  , but it doesn\'t work.
Now i\'m seeing  this message to scroll on the screen:
NETDEV WATCHDOG: usbd0: transmit timed out

I also have a 5500 and I never had this problem. But I was under the impression that in the thread where they talked about this workaround it was related to 5500... probably I got it wront.

Do what Mickeyl said!!!

Uninstall the \'hotplug\' package and intall the one from 3.2

it\'s just scripts, they don\'t depend on anything else and the ones in 3.3.6 have errors.  This WIL fix your problem

Agreed, but I think the kenel messages is another issue on the poodle (5600).

I am having hotplug issues as well.  First off this is what I have:
Zaurus 5600
Openzaurus 3.3.5

I uninstalled the version of hotplug that was installed, and downloaded the file mentioned above, which is version 2002_08_26-8.

Still though when I try to do anything with hotplug ie /etc/init.d/hotplug status it prints this:

grep: /proc/hal/model: No such file or directory

Am I really supposed to have that file, why don\'t I, and is there a fix?

Thanks

--edit--

Well after much hassle, reboots, and anger I\'ve gotten to the point where I can ping the zaurus, the zaurus can ping my computer, and the zaurus can even ping websites etc.  What is weird though is that I can\'t visit the website I just pinged or it times out.  I cannot even wget a file or it times out.  This seems very odd to me, and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh and by the way, even after the above is sort of working, I still get that weird message when trying to get the status of hotplug.

Thanks

--edit 2 --

Forget it, got a linksys wireless cf card now.

I have the same hotplug problem on a 5600, running 3.3.6-pre1, even after I downgraded the hotplug package to the 3.3.2 version.

Same problem here - what I can\'t understand is that if I reflash OZ 3.3.6, do the screen fix (echo 1] /proc/sys/kernel/printk) and then remove hotplug, install the 3.3.2 one, reboot and have the same USB problem in that sometimes I even have to reboot both PC and Zaurus in order to get usb working, what it the mysterious step that is missing ???
