Re-install Opensimpad With Hh.org Bootloader
« on: April 16, 2005, 05:25:35 pm »
I installed the latest opensimpad image (opensimpad-0.9.0rc1_opieXXL.jffs2, see Topic at old SIMPad forum) and the new hh.org bootloader along with it.

Now I managed to screw it (I tried to install some packages, and now they are neither there (I can't use them) nor gone (I can't reinstall them).

I thought reinstalling OPIE might be a good idea. I understand that I have to erase the flash in order to make the SIMPad install the image from a CF card.

But how do I do it? The erase flash option of the bootloader needs the blocks to be erased (see http://www.handhelds.org/Compaq/bootldr.html) , but which blocks should I erase?

Do I have to reinstall the old bootloader 2.5.3? The installation guides always start from the "classic" bootloader.

How else can I reinstall (preferably from CF card)?

"I am not an expert" but all I had to do was to copy the new image from the CF card to the root partition. No erase required. This is the advice cmartin gave me:

If not the bootldr receives input and drops to a boot prompt:
boot>

If you see this then do
boot> copy hda1:/simpad-rootfs.jffs2 root

Oops, I realize that I managed to overlook it in the old SIMpad forum. Thanks!
