After some problems with reading the read-me file (My fault, not the development team), I finally installed Cacko on my Zaurus...I really like it...its great! The looks are very clean, and, although I haven't used the Z for anything like internet access or any major workout...I am pleased.

Great work.

I might be a bit late on this but I've finally installed cacko3k on my Z. So far everything works great! The Planex wifi card didn't work (even after installing the modules from the Sharp support site) initially but after adding an entry in /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf, the Z managed to get a wlan connection!

After deciding that I'd probably never feel fully prepared for flashing my system, I decided to do it after I got off work this morning.  Flashed to Sharp 1.11JP ROM, and then to Cacko 1.23...

Everything looks beautiful, and it was incredibly easy to do - just had to follow the simple steps in the readme that iamasmith provided.  I've poked around on the system a bit, and love the extra features/layout.

I briefly attempted to connect to my home network with my AmbiCom WL1100-CF card, and it showed that I was connected for about 10 seconds before the low signal icon appears.  Haven't been able to see my network yet, but I'll play with this a little more after I wake up in a few hours.

I'd like to thank everyone for all of their hard work!!! Hopefully I'll be able to help out more with development once I get accustomed to the Zaurus and IPKs.  It's hard to devote much time to testing since I'm working 60-80+ hour weeks for work, but I'll try my best in helping to report bugs (and hopefully bug-fixes).  Thanks again!

Thanks for this great Rom!!!

I really like it. Ok, there are some strange bugs. I can not go into detail at the moment because I am just finished with the installation. But anyway, it seems much better than the sharp rom to me.

Is there a cacko feed especially for C3k or which one shall I use?

greets,
miho

Thanks for the great rom.

I've been using it on my 5500 for a year and now I have had a 3000 for 2 months and I've only had two issues.  One was self inflicted by not resetting after the flash.  The second problem is a bit more perplexing.  When I start an application, any application, the system will partially reboot and hang at the cacko screen forcing me to hit the reset button.  I haven't noticed any pattern of starts and it seems to be completely random.  After resetting the application can be started without crashing.  I've reflashed 3 times and the problem still remains.
When chaos reigns, pause, reflect and reload the OS to something more stable, like any unix/linux flavor.

Ok my experience with cacko is pretty good, except there's some stability issues sharp rom doesn't have.  If my system has been booted for a while (like say 2 weeks) but generally sleeping due to lack of use, and I turn on the slc3k and try to run a low resolution program (magnified mode) the zaurus crashes and shows the slc3kb1 boot screen.  Some hard drive accesses for a short time and then it stops and does nothing.  Only solution I can see is to pull the battery and reboot.  I had it doing this pretty reliably executing doom and some other programs but it seems mostly to do with the resolution change rather than any specific program.  I had no such instability on sharp rom.  In fact I never had a full out crash on sharp rom.  This is with multiple version of tetsu kernels too so....  I suppose it could be due to some incompatibilities in some software I've installed or whatnot.  I notice certain things are a guaranteed crash like zRSS.

Question for iamasmith or anyone else, please...

I need to edit the 'etc/sudoers' file per Meanie's Debian install instructions.

Not thinking that Cacko already had installed 'sudo', I like others following his instructions, installed version 1.6.3p7-2 of sudo manually. While this worked and I was able to use 'visudo' to edit the 'etc/sudoers' file and get Debian running OK.

However, something happened to 'On/Off' functionality when I tried to re-install X/Qt the other day using his new 'jumbo X/Qt' package. After install, I could no longer turn off my C3000 using the 'On/Off' button.

Coincidentally, someone just posted a similar situation regarding this. They think that this version of 'sudo' caused problem and found that only by reflashing Z with Cacko corrected this problem.

So I did the same thing and reflashed and all is good again...

So, now want to get X/Qt/Debian up and running again, but want to avoid this problem again if possible....

Hence my question.....

With the version of 'sudo' installed by the Cacko3K b1.23:

A) Can I use the visudo command? If so, how to invoke it? I've tried but get 'command not found' message.

If I can't use 'visudo' with the version installed by Cacko3K, then how can I edit the 'etc/sudoers' file??

Thanks for any help!

Another happy user here.
The keyhelper installation is just great - just the keys I've wanted to be mapped (/) are mapped.
Nice interface as well. The thing I'm waiting for is the wireless drivers mess to be resolved - currently I can't use WPA with my card, which is a real shame.

I'm currently testing bluez on the cacko3k but I can't seem to find the init scripts for it. It's supposed to be in /etc/rc.d/init.d/bluetooth isn't it? Where is it? Because of this missing script I'm now wondering if I was able to make a complete Cacko ROM install. Is there a way to check this?

Otherwise I'm able access and use the usual BT utility commands (hcitool, sdptool).

Has anyone actually gotten the Ambicom WL1100C to work with Cacko on the 3K
or would I need to buy a new wireless card if I want to use Cacko?

If you got it to work, can you use it with WPA?

My AmbiCom WL1100C works with Cacko 3.21b.  Check out [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=11855&st=240&p=84476&#entry84476]this post[/url].

one thing I would realy like to see is screen rotation in the other directon

cuz if you got the Z in PDA/Viewmode (Screen Rotated to landscape) and hold it with your left hand you always got the WLAN card in the way
SL-C3000 / Cacko 3kb1
512MB SD/CF Kingston
DLink DCF-660W W-LAN
Socket Ethernet
Nokia DTL-1 Bluetooth
Pretec CF 56k Modem
I DON'T SYNC ;-)

OK, just looking to try to nail down the numbers to see if things are worthwhile.

If you are using Cacko 3K at all in any form then please just answer even if you don't feel like posting an answer.

I would like problems posted on the 3k-feedback thread that Kahm started, however, I welcome general criticism either way on this thread.

BTW: Don't think you are being counted for PayPal nags. I'm not into that at the moment.

I am considering possibly using PayPal if people want to contribute towards getting certain hardware tested because I have a Bluetooth and WLAN card and I'm probably not going to buy another unless someone buys one for me... hardware contributions would be another option. - Let me know what your opinions would be on this if you like.. I certainly wouldn't intend living on the proceeds... (yeah, right in Chiswick!?)

I installed it yesterday. Looks smooth. But when I restored my backup, suspend
did't work at all anymore.
Any idea why? Before I used Sharp 1.11 rom.
Anyway, I reset the device (format hdd, Ok menu, 3., 1.) and the initial Cacko rom suspends
fine.
Thanks for the good work!
ms

PS: cold you document, what tools you exactly use to produce the rom?
Would be very nice to be able to play with it myself.
