I installed it yesterday. Looks smooth. But when I restored my backup, suspend
did't work at all anymore.
Any idea why? Before I used Sharp 1.11 rom.
I think that you shouldn't restore your Sharp ROM backup "as is". It contains some config files that will conflict with Cacko's files. As far as I can remember, the suspend stuff is changed in the Cacko ROM: apm is now a script that does things in addition to simply calling the old apm binary, as far as I can remember, so restoring your backup will prevent that from happening, and the suspend stuff from working.

The only thing you can do is extract your personal data from your backup, and restore only that, not any system file. But you'll have to do this manually, I'm afraid. I think that was part of the alpha version readme, but I can't find it again in the beta 1 readme... This problem has also been mentioned already in this or another thread, you'll want to look for those messages using the board search engine for a more accurate answer, I'm afraid!

Hope this helps, though...
Patrick

Hello to All!

I'm new here. Very much interested in Cacko 3K. I'm wondering if it would work for C3100.

Thank you.

I, too, am really hoping to see Cacko on my C31H(undred) upon seeing the overwhelming good reviews. Is it possible with quick hacks to the install script? What's the 'official' plan for C3100 support?

I'm one of those who voted Bad. And to be honest it's not a reflection on Cacko itslef but more on the fact that it can't be installed without losing Japanese dictionaries/etc.

As soon as it is possible to retain these and Japanese input methods I'm jumping over.

Hi, this is just a post to say that this project isn't dead and forgotten.

I have had a lot going on and am builiding up as a contractor at the moment so I haven't had chance to do a lot of stuff with the Z and my thoughts are to wait until Anton's SL-C1000 project is out before any other adaptions.

Point taken about the Japanese input stuff. As soon as I have something that works in a pure English mode I will adapt the build to include back in the Japanese stuff.

Glad to hear that the project is still alive and kicking!

Until the time that Cacko has Japanese support, are there any other projects out there that might be worth taking a look at.

I didn't research it in very much depth but looks like OpenZaurus also (at least with Opie) doesn't support Japanese input either?

Look forward to the next Cacko3K version....

In the meantime, enjoying using Cacko3Kb1.23.

I"m almost there. Kino2 is basicly finished and once testing is complete, I'll release it and include as part of the 1.23 ROM.  I'm currently trying to complete a couple of small TODO items and get a spare C1000/C3100 for testing. I will try to inclue C3100 support as well in this release...

The new Cacko will have Japanese support. (I know cause I'm packaging it )

I got the packages from the C1k - cause that's what I got and the work with Anton's dev build of the Cacko rom for C1K. I can't see any reason why they won't work for the C3x00 too.

I'm playing around with making the dictionary files a squashfs image file to save more disk space, but haven't got the installer working properly yet. Maybe we could offer a Cacko-jp rom with the Japanese stuff already included? Don't know how that fits with Anton's plans though.

Just voted "Good", a definitive improvement over the Sharp ROM. I've just a problem figuring how to enable the usb network on the Zaurus side (but that isn't probably cacko b1.23 specific as i just received my c3000 this week and am more or less still getting up to speed).

OK, just looking to try to nail down the numbers to see if things are worthwhile.

If you are using Cacko 3K at all in any form then please just answer even if you don't feel like posting an answer.

I would like problems posted on the 3k-feedback thread that Kahm started, however, I welcome general criticism either way on this thread.

BTW: Don't think you are being counted for PayPal nags. I'm not into that at the moment.

I am considering possibly using PayPal if people want to contribute towards getting certain hardware tested because I have a Bluetooth and WLAN card and I'm probably not going to buy another unless someone buys one for me... hardware contributions would be another option. - Let me know what your opinions would be on this if you like.. I certainly wouldn't intend living on the proceeds... (yeah, right in Chiswick!?)

Please vote,

- Andy

Hi,

first of all thanks for the effort of making it!

I tried this morning to install it but I am a bit confused by the (rather concise :-) installation  instructions.

I feel a bit stupid given the number of success  reported in this thread but I need a more detailed explanation of the steps:

First of all I have applied the Sharp ROM 1.11 update,
then I made a NAND backup using the Service Menu, just in case ...  (it took me a while to find out how, maybe it should be added to the instructions)

then I started following the readme.txt:

> i. NAND flash restore.

what do you mean with this? there is no .dbk file in your distribution to restore on the Zaurus

> ii. Sharp Upgrade.

you mean to apply the Sharp ROM 1.11?

> iii. Device zero process (option 3, then 1 from the OK menu).

I think I have started it correctly by resetting the Z then powering on pressing the OK key while powering on, then from the Japanese 4 choices menu I have selected 3 then 1, it is not clear what to do when it finish as a splash screen in japanese shows up and the I do not know how to procees (I resetted again by removing the battery and pressing the reset button)

> iv. Restore user backup.

I did not needed this step

then I performed the part about installing from CF the cackoo image and kernel, this went well, it was clear for me.

At the end I had an installation that was not suspending (I guess due to the resetting of the hd partition not being performed well) and the installed icons were almost all in Japanese (but menues were in english), it looked messed up, also I saw no sign of a console application (cannot live without command line).

Can somebody explain me in details the steps above in more details?

Thanks,

Max

I decided to give the beta a whirl and so far it looks excellent.   One problem I am having is transfering PIM data.  I copied everything in the dtm directory to the appropriate place, but the PIM apps still have no data.   Anyone know what I am missing?

I'll try to sync it tomorrow on my work computer and hopefully I will have everything back.

Other than the PIM data problem, I am very pleased so far.  It is *so* much faster than the original ROM.

I was able to sync at work today and fixed my problem.  I'm thinking it was just file permissions before keeping me from using the copied PIM data.

To my amazement, hotsync now works with USB settings, and I don't have to go through the bizzare procedure I used before with the stock ROM to sync.  For some reason I could never sync more than once without eraseing the ILDATA directory, and having to do a full sync from scratch (very slow).

Cacko is looking really good.  I'll be making a donation soon assuming I don't run into any show stoppers.

Thanks!!!
