Opera For For The Sl-cxxx?
« on: May 09, 2005, 10:31:43 pm »
Is is just me or is Netfront lame in comparison to Opera? Is is possible to add helper apps into Netfront so that, for instance if I click on a link that is a Hancom Word doc it would actually open in Word? Barring that, has anyone seen Opera compiled to run on the C[3|1]K platforms?

Thanks,

gdog

There are a couple of beta Opera packages in the "Cacko3k Feedback" feed that should work. The Opera v7.25 packages has proper "Small Screen" Formatting, but the 7.55 package has newer icons. I'm going to talk to Euroclie about using his Icons for the 7.25 package and re-build it again later.

I use Opera almost exclusively on the Z

Are there any 1K-friendly Opera IPKs out there yet? The 7.25 package for the 3K doesn't seem to want to run on my lil ole 1K.

Thanks,

It doesn't? Strange. Well, the 7.55 package works. Use that for now. I'll be repacking the 7.25 again soon.

Does that 7.3 version do proper small screen formatting? All the 7.xx versions I've seen, except 7.25 from the 6k, do the small screen formatting optimized for the 5x00 series, all crammed into a 240pixel wide section on the left side of the screen.

that's what the c series fix ipk is for... it works good.  That said, I like the 7.55 opera better... it seems (to me) to be a little faster.  That's probably just my imagination though

Ah. Sounds good. I'll have a crack at repackaging that one with the 3k fix and newer icons. Depending on what the "fix" is, it may be possible to get 7.55 working properly as well.

Kahm and offroadgeek,
I ended up installing the the opera_7.25_c3k_1_arm.ipk, and then the opera-cseries-fix_7.30_arm.ipk packages. Those worked fine. The problem I was having was in getting the mime types set up in Opera to open word, excel and pdf files from links in my Opera HTML Menu. Works fine now. What advantages does the 7.55 build of Opera have if any?
I'm sure that I have some learning to do about the 1K, but it seems that the Sharp ROM as built on the 6K just seemed to work more "seamlessly" while requiring fewer tweaks. But hey that's half the fun of setting up new toys and the best way to learn, right?
The KA/pi and KO/pi apps are certainly much different than the Sharp PIMs though I think if I ever master them I'll be much happier with them as they appear to be much more robust in terms of functionality.
Now if only Hancom would upgrade their apps to include macros and forumulas in their word and sheet docs

Best Regards,

gdog

Glad to see that the C-Series ipk fixed the mime-types as well. I'll be taking and making a "Perfect" Opera ipk - The C3k Fix, C-Series Fix, Updated Icons, and Opera 7.55.  (But it'll have to wait until Friday.)

Package: opera-cseries-fix
Version: 7.30
Architecture: arm
Maintainer: Ray Lambert <ray@interthingy.net>
Priority: optional
Section: web
Description: Opera 7.30 fixes for C-series Zaurii
This fix modifies Opera 7.30 in the following ways:
        - creates missing symlink in /usr/share
        - replaces Opera toolbar icons with larger versions
        - replaces Opera desktop icon with prettier version
Note #1: The version number of this package follows the Opera version number.
Note #2: Although it has only been tested on Opera version 7.30, this package
should work for all Opera version 7.x releases through 7.30 (and possibly later
        ones as well).

It doesn't do anything about the small screen layout, which is broken in 7.55 and 7.30.
