Sudden Seeming Power Loss
« on: May 19, 2005, 02:18:08 pm »
Hi All,

I got my C1000 on Friday of last week. I charged it over night on Friday night, unplugged it and used it off the mains for some time on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, the last time I looked at it it was a half battery symbol on Tuesday night. Then I tried to turn it on, on Wednesday and it was dead as a dodo. I had to recharge it again.

This happened to anyone?

I think the "half battery" symbol actually means "almost dead".

A more accurate battery meter would be nice.

I'd have to agree with AndyTiedye...  I can charge my C3000  and use it for several hours/days without the battery symbol changing.  As soon as I see anything other than 100%, I know that I'm probably on my last hour of battery power.  The half-battery indicator usually means that there's only about 10 to 20 minutes of life left in the battery.

However I don't think that the battery indicator issue is a problem with the Zaurii alone.  I have several other electronic devices that go from 100% battery indicator to dead in a very short time - with a long running life at 100% (cameras, storage devices, etc.).

Well that's a relief!!! :-)

Funny how Mobile Phone batteries can be so accurate though!

A better battery meter, would be fab, like with a percentage.

You get that sort of granularity out of the latest tetsu Kernels, if you take a look at the file /proc/apm you can see that with the standard Sharp stuff it just drops in 25% increments. The patches in the latest tetsu Kernel add much more granularity but aren't completely foolproof.

Note that you can get quite wild bucks in the % if you use WLAN cards with the device actually seeming to recover % power when you remove the cards.

My 3k drops to dead when the icon is around 60ish %.  Like many I find it annoying, but as a n00b to Zaurii and having a 3k where there are not many mods out, I guess i have to wait it out for a bit more.

I think this happens to all Zaurii. It happened to my 5500 so, as iamasmith says, it's a kernel issue.
Now I'm running Cacko kernel in the 5500 and it works great with a pretty accurate granularity. It is also truth that batt meter drops down when using a wifi card and afterwards it recovers. This also happens when using backlight at high levels.
Maybe it is time to be brave and try tetsu's kernel on the new toy...
