Sandisk Connect Plus Wireless W. 5500?
« on: May 21, 2005, 01:47:19 pm »
Hi,
I just bought a Sandisk Connect Plus card and it looks like it won't work at all with the Sharp 3.1 ROM which I have installed on my Zaurus SL-5500.

I have seen postings about people trying to get it to work with the Cacko ROM and the Open Zaurus ROM  - is there a ROM out there in which this card is plug and play yet???

OR, is there someway to get just the wireless working on my 3.1 ROM?

I don't need or expect to get memory access and wireless access at the same time - just have both features work one at a time.

Anybody else out there struggling with this?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Tombraider

Open Zaurus 3.5.3 works with this rom.

You will need to install the prisim3-support package for the card to be recognised as a WIFI card.

Great!  Where can I download the "prism3-support package"?  Is that an ipkg type install??

Thanks for the response,

Nevermind,  I think I found it [a href=\"http://ipkgfind.handhelds.org/details.phtml?package=prism3-support&official=&format=]HERE[/url]

Now I just have to get up enough nerve to try to install Open Zaurus which I have never done.

JIC:

If you are connecting to a WEP protected wifi network and it does not seem to be working, try putting s: at the beginning of your WEP key.

Yes it is in the OpenZaurus feeds.

ipkg install prisim3-support should be all you need to do once you have flashed.

Thanks, John,  there's a catch 22 there though - how do you get the package from the feed if you can't use the wireless card?  ;-)  Fortunately, I have a second wireless cf card - a Belkin - hope it works out of the box with this Open Zaurus ROM.  From the looks of the forum here just about nothing works out of the box on this ROM.  I've never seen so many arcane instructions for what should be simple tasks in my life!!   It looks like people think nothing of typing constantly in the terminal mode - do they like pain,  or what?  ;-)

You could also use USB networking between your zaurus and a PC for connectivity to install the prisim3 packages.

OpenZaurus 3.5.3 is a 'unstable' release so it's a little rough around the edges but it is quite impressive for its speed.

Some months ago you wont get that card running under Linux at all.. And we were one of first which provided support for that card. As it is uncommon one then support is not in base images (which have to be small).

Whole my current Z hardware is supported out-of-box under OZ (I don't even want to look how it was under Sharp clones).
