Cannot Sync Linux To 3.5.3 Collie

All,

3.5.3 collie will not sync with multisync on linux host. usb is up and working. The linux config has not changed between 3.3.6 to 3.5.1 or 3.5.3. On those releases it was necessary to add links between the / dir and the data. I tried that but it did not work.  

The sync attempt is recognized by the Z. The screen flashes sync Multisync. However the log
shows Failed to connect, Failed to load data.

Has anyone gotten multisync to work and what were the hangups?

What should the sym links look like?

I have multisync working fine on my Ubuntu desktop. Note that 3.5.3 is the first OZ release I've ever used, so I never made any symlinks.

What you may be running into is a problem that others have mentioned, where there's a new level of default security for the PDA: the root password is actually set to something. I'd reset the root password for your Zaurus in the console, then make sure your multisync settings match that new password.

I found the last little piece to the puzzle here:

It involves creating symlinks to three locations.  After doing this Multisync worked like a charm.  It took me about one and a half weeks to find this one detail that I haven't noticed anywhere else.
