Kopi--gpe, Or Only Opie?
« on: May 24, 2005, 02:11:02 pm »
OK, I've tried searching, and it's probably very obvious, but I'm missing it...

My understanding is that the GPE image provides an X server for the device.  This, to me, means that one ought to be able to run QT-compatible apps on GPE.

But I did notice that kopi shows up only in the Opie feed, not GPE.  And, well--that's about the only productive thing that I *do* with my Z.  So I've sorta got to have kopi.

I think I'd like to try GPE.  But I'm not willing to give up Kopi.

So... can Kopi (or other opie-style apps) run under GPE?  Is there a compatible set of libraries for it?  Which feeds work with both GPE and Opie?  I'm sure there must be several, since there isn't a whole lot in the GPE feed...

Thanks; apologies for my confusion--I really did try to figure it out by myself.

Someone have to join OE team and look how QT3/X11 works under GPE. If it works then next step will be changing kdepimpi build to build packages for opie (like it is now) and for X (aka in desktop mode).

I dont know will it work - probably all libraries used by kdepim/pi will have same name in both enviroments so packages can 'clash' each other which is not good.

libmicrokabc1 from opie build
libmicrokabc1 from X11 build

maybe Zautrix have to say something here - does it is possible to have those libs named in other way for X11 build..
