Kismet And The Sharp 3.13 Rom
« on: June 02, 2005, 11:52:25 am »
After spending much of last night digging around these forums, I am still unable to get kismet to run on the Sharp ROM.

When run from the command line (for debugging purposes) kismet complains that it cannon find libpcap.so.1

While I do have libpcap.so.0.7.2 installed and correctly linked (including libpcap.so.0.7, libpcap.so.0, etc) the highest version I have been able to find an ipk for is libpcap.so.0.8.1, and I have seen libpcap.so.0.8.3 metioned around here.

Anyone have any ideas as to what the deal is with libpcap.so.1?  Do I need to download it from somewhere that I missed? or just link to it from another library?

-John

Well, I have to reply to my own post...

While I never did get the libpcap.so.1 issue resolved, I did have some success by going over to www.kismetwireless.net and downloading the latest build of kismet.  They have statically linked it, so at least I could get it to run, but I still could not get the kismet server to attach to an interface.  I will have to look into this another day

I have Kismet working on my Sharp 3.1.3 ROM.  Did you get the gui part and download and install it?  It gives you an icon to click on and it works great as a wireless detector...unlike the Wellenreiter which I can't get to work at all on my OZ collie Z.  Wellenreiter on OZ  gives me some kind of weird choice about "killing" something when I start it and I'm afraid to answer "yes";  when I answer "no" it won't even detect my own wireless network in my own house!

[a href=\"http://killefiz.de/zaurus/search.php?q=kismet+&x=17&y=5]Get both the gui and the Kismet ipk here.[/url]

I used Kismet on Wall Street when we were in NYC and there were just tons and tons of wireless hits there!

Hi,

I am in the same boat, kismet runs, but does not ever show any
networks, packets, etc.

I have a Linksys WCF12 which I use, and have been trying prism2
in the kismet.conf file.

I can't seem to find any end-to-end instructions, for getting it
up and running on any of the ROMs.  There are also 2
versions of kismet at the site posted above (labeled get
kismet and the GUI here).

In any case, some more detailed instructions (or pointers to them)
would be very helpful.  I also have a low power Socket WIFI card,
but although it connects to access points OK under all ROMS, after
a minute or so it always stops working.  So, I assume its best
to use my Linksys to try to get kismet to function.

okay

here it is...sorry for being so late

install-all to internal drive:

    * libstdc6_1.2.2_arm.ipk
    * libpcap - [libpcap0_0.7.2_arm.ipk
    * kismet3 - [kismet_3.0.1c-20031228_arm.ipk
    * kismet-qt - [kismet-qt_2.0.0_arm.ipk

hold down the kismet icon in applications and checkmark "start with root" and remove checkmark on "magnify".

su and use zeditor or your favorite editing program and change variables in /usr/local/etc/kismet.conf

change with zeditor or your favorite as su or root and change the variables in

the code looks like this combined

Hi guys.  Does this procedure work easily with the Sharp 3.1 ROM and Socket card?   (ie no special drivers or installation?)

If yes, what config do I use in the Kismet.conf.

Thanks,

Grant
