Hey there, I truly hope that works for people!!

I've no need to try thunderbird so no haven't tried that and probably won't. Sorry.

Firefox is in with debian, so I discovered, but I've not tried to install it just for xqt.

Sorry to hear about your Z being in a mess, I take regular NANDs of mine

I've replaced the link to that file on my site. The file was still there, but I had removed the link thinking that Meanie's updated file: xqt-debian-scripts_0.5_arm.zip had replaced it. Anyway, both files are there now. Hopefully Meanie can clarify whether both are needed.

No need to apologize about the site. I find it interesting though. I just downloaded the openoffice file to test my connectivity and averaged over 150kb/s speed. I didn't think that was too bad...

Perhaps if you are using the same ISP to connect to the internet, as the one that hosts your file, you'll achieve a faster and more consistent download rate than someone outside that system?

I remember having major issues downloading from your site, I'm afraid. Am glad the files are there though, much appreciated.

Unrelated, sort of, but...

Has anybody else run into a problem with space when installing Fireox?  The first time I installed, I got the dreaded "HDD1 error!!" and had to restore from NAND/my own backup combination.  Not terribly difficult, but frustrating.  There was 0 space available on /dev/mtdblock3 (mounted as home).

The second time I installed Firefox space went to 99% full (48K free)!  Uninstalling doesn't free up the space either.  I can't even see what would be taking up the extra space.  Nothing obvious, anyway.

One other thing, that may have already been mentioned:  During Firefox's install of the ipkg, it comes back with a warning that /hdd3/zaurushome doesn't exist (of course, it's not a standard location).  Then states that directory linking has completed.  Is there something in the install script that links something in the /dev/mtdblock3 partition to /hdd3/zaurushome and perhaps doesn't clean itself up on uninstall?

R.
==

** EDIT **

Turns out /home/zaurus/.mozilla/firefox isn't removed on unistall.  That directory alone takes up about 800K.

Nope. Not even close. I'm using Cox cable as my local ISP. I actually have no friggin' idea where my website is hosted (I suppose I should look it up), but I know it's at least 15 hops across 3 or 4 nets to get to it. Definitely not the same ISP though. FWIW, I also did a speed test from my work machine on a totally different net and also had success...

i spent a bit of time today trying debian on the x env but i couldnt get it to work on vfat.  I need vfat so i can swap files from my pc to my zaurus.

Reason i dont totally go with mandrake or debian 100percent is because i need to run a windows os for school....this blows totally!!

MAN!

also, it could be that my files could of been corrupt since i redownloaded each of the big files like 5 times each.

Im gona wait for debian and x environment.

Hi Meanie,

I have installed X/QT Jumbo now on my C3000 with Cacko ROM 1.23beta1.
THank you for your hard work! Ths jumbo package makes installation so much smoother! I will try the X application packages later. In case you plan to improve the package, here are some notes:

* Using the GUI installer (Setting / Add/Remove Software), the Zaurus had some problems. After about 15min of installing, the clock stopped counting the minutes. I waited for another hour in case it takes really that long and stops the entire device, but to no avail. I rebooted. After the reboot, X/QT was there and StartX worked. But I didn't trust that interrupted installation and reinstalled. See later.
It may be that following events have disturbed the installation process: 1. I plugged in the AC adapter during the installation, 2. I have overclocked the CPU to make installation faster and 3. I ejected the WLAN card during the install.

* After the reboot I used the command line ipkg install xqt-gtk-jumbopack_0.4.3-0.6_arm_ikp to reintall the entire thing. That time it worked well. I dont know how fast, as I left the Zaurus unattended for an hour.
But I recommend to use the command line for such large packages! At least if something fails, you will probably see an error message.

* The command line installer gave an error "mkdir: Cannot create directory /hdd3/zaurushome/.mozilla: No such file or directory".
Sure, because I don't have a /hdd3/zaurushome, as some people seem to have. So after installation it will be necessary to
mkdir /hdd3/zaurushome
mkdir /hdd3/zaurushome/.mozilla
ln -s /hdd3/zaurushome/.mozilla /home/zaurus
right?

I have done so in the hope that Mozilla will work correctly.

Now I'll try XQT and install some apps...
