It takes a while to load those icons so I decided not to automatically load them. There is a menu item that says DesktopIcons which will activate them.

as for automounting the cramfs on your 860, you will need to modify /etc/pcmcia/ide for the CF card.
SL-C3000 - pdaXii13 build5.4.9 (based on pdaXrom beta3) / SL-C3100 - Sharp ROM 1.02 JP (heavily customised)
Netgear MA701 CF, SanDisk ConnectPlus CF, Socket Bluetooth CF, 4GB Kingston CF,  4GB pqi SD, 4GB ChoiceOnly SD, 2GB SanDisk SD USB Plus, 1GB SanDisk USB Plus, 1GB Transcend SD, 2GB SanDisk MicroSD with SD adaptor, Piel Frama Leather Case, GoldX 5-in-1 USB cable, USB hub, USB mouse, USB keyboard, USB ethernet, USB HDD, many other USB accessories...

i'll fix it so you can launch it straight from the icon in the next update of the xqt-apps cramfs.

in the meantime, i am trying to decide what else to add to the xqt-apps cramfs.
maybe some of datajerk's compiled apps if he doesn't mind.

x48 looks good, and xqt-bochs can be bundled preconfigured with FreeDOS. win98 loads much quicker on xqt-bochs as well, but that I cannot bundle for obvious reasons.

Hello Meanie
Thanks for your quick replay

Now the problem is that the icons (after typing DesktopIcons on the menu) remains always on top, even when an application is launched ; so you imagine the mess
a lot of icons inside abiword for example !!

ok i found it the solution is that we have to type immidiately after: restart on the same menu

for information to have the menu just hold the fn key and type en the screen

When I install it on a FAT32 SD card in an c700 running the most recent CACKO ROM, the installation shell runs showing many files being linked.  But if I click on the start X file or type xlauncher or xqt start x in the console, no response.

Suggestions anyone?

If I need to edit anything or add a script appreciate suggestions how to do it in cacko, thx

I downlaoded the crams images off bams site.  everrything sort of works.  mozilla and thunderbird does not work.  java does nt work.  openoffice does work but wont launch because it states i have permission denied.  any help can do.

the previous version i had no problems launching openoffice and mozilla, thunderbird never workes.  the apps do work though.  i do have a better expirience withthe xqt jumbo crams image.  does not ask for lost libs or anything.
---------------------
update...my bad.

runxqtoo

i was running

runoo

thanks.  openoffice is working like a charm.  takes a good while to load and loads like a charm.

just an update.

I did another fresh install just to note differences.  I installed everything and was wondering why xqtoo never appeared in the tabs.  I ran ./xqt-install.sh and after a reboot or a update on the tabs manager, it appears.  It wont appear if you install it one time.  Funny thing you need to run installer twice to get this openoffice to be recognized not needing debian.

Hi all

Now all the cramfs (xqt, xqtapps and openoffice) are installed on my C860 and every thing is ok,

But openoffice takes too much time to load, more than 4 Minutes
So i have uncompressed it and copy it to my cf it takes about 250Mo
than i modified runxqtoo to point directly to openoffice scalc, the result is amazing it needs only 2 minutes 20" to launch all xqt, minideb, openoffice, and spreadsheet !!!

but i think that i have to do some more tweaking may be change some other paths in some other files ??? i don't knew cause some times it launches and some other times it doesn't

my question is

first What do you think about having openoffice as uncompressed files instead of cramfs since memory space is not a problem on sd or cf (prices have go down)

second do you knew what other tweaking i have to do to make it run from cf
without problem

hope some replays

Freebird, if you get a chance could you post a brief "idiots guide" for how you got the cramfs to work on a c860.  I had to resort to the xqt ipk and am curious what I was doing wrong.  Thx and enjoy.

spaul maybe you need just to mount the cramfs
supposing you have installed xqt-gtk-jumob.cramfs version 0.7.3 dated 04/12/05
try typing this on the console

Code: [Select]
#su
#mount -o loop /mnt/card/YourXqtCramfsDirectoryPath/xqt-gtk-jumbo.cramfs /mnt/xqt/xqt-gtk-jumbo
then type on the startx icon

you should be able to extract the cramfs images to SD/CF or /hdd3 as long as they are formatted as ext2 or ext3
i build them on my ext2 formatted CF card and run them from there directly because it is much faster this way. the cramfs is for people who want to keep their fat partitions and want to conserve space so people with 512MB SD or CF cards can run xqt apps and openoffice from the card directly, but if you do have a larger card and don't mind reformatting it to ext2 or ext3, then extracting the cramfs images to them does run the apps faster, although you will require more space to store the uncompressed files. plus you don't need to worry about mounting and unmounting the cramfs images if the files are uncompressed
there is nothing special that you need to do. i run everything off my 4 GB CF card and it all sits under /mnt/cf/xqt/...
ie

/mnt/cf/xqt/xqt-gtk
/mnt/cf/xqt/xqt-apps
etc..
all you need to do once you extracted them cramfs is to run each of the setup scripts

Faster than what?  How much faster?  I am trying to decide if I should update xqt-bochs.  Is there interest?  Or will most be using SDL bochs?

Thanks.

Hi Meanie

I have just finished installing xqt,xqt-qpps and openoffice after uncompressing the cramfs
first: on a compact flash 1G 80X speed,
then: on an SD card 1G  60X speed
both formatted ext2.
the result was clear :
running from the compact flash it two times faster than from SD Card
to execute openoffice from CF takes 2 Minutes, from SD Card takes 4 minutes

so i will keep openoffice on my CF

Hey Freebird,

Thanks for the help, SUDO and explaining remounting did the trick for me.  Bluetoothing Dillo to verizon EVDO is so much faster than any so called smart phone.  What a kick.  I was worried because the default fonts and themes looked so dreary but a little bit of tweaking blackbox themes  and dillo / Fluxbox looks as good as PDAXROM equivalents.
