Hi All

First i want think you MEANIE for the great job you are doing
It helps us (newbies) too much and it makes the zuaurs more powerfull

I have successed installing both xqt and debian on my  C860, and it is AMAZING

Now i am preparing to install OPenoffice on my sd card 1GB

But i don't knew how to uncompress the openoffice cramfs file (in order to

make it loading faster)

Which programme and which command line shall i use to uncompress it

you just need to mount the cramfs file, then copy all the files over and then you can delete the cramfs file, ie

mount -o loop openoffice114.cramfs /mnt
cp -R /mnt /hdd3/debroot/home/zaurus/OpenOffice.org1.1.4
umount /mnt
rm openoffice114.cramfs

thanks for your quick reply
but please I have some more questions to avoid any mistake

1- where the cmfs openoffice file must be (which path) before i run these instructions
2- Should i Run these instructions after installing openoffice or before
3- I have c860 so no hdd3 maybe i have to put instead of hdd3 /card/debroot
4- from where i have to run these instructions i mean which directory and which console (debain, or cacko or xqt)
5- i guess i have to type su first

Sorry mybe these questions are silly but i am not yet familiarised with linux

A question about alternate locations for Xqt / Debian etc.

I am planning to do the following:

1. Unmount HDD3
2. Delete HDD3
3. Create 500 MByte HDD3 as FAT for personal files and such
4. Use the remaining space to create HDD4 as ext2

I think I should be able to do this.

What I am not sure about is the following:
- what do I need to do that the Z recognizes HDD4? ( meanie mentions "add entries for hdd4 in /etc/fstab " - what entries do I need to add?)
- will the Xqt / Debian files give me the option to be installed on HDD4?

I have installed both xqt and debian on my c860 using jumbo packages with success
Now i want to add openoffice Meanie package

So i copy only 2 files to my CF:
the openoffice package (zaurus-debian-openoffice114.tar.gz) and the xqt-debian-install.sh file (version 0.3.
and then i run:
# su
# ./xqt-debian-install.sh /mnt/card/debroot
i had this message:
error: zaurus-debian-jumbo-v18-b01.tar.gz is corrupted

is this file (zaurus-debian-jumbo-v18-b01.tar.gz ) required to add openoffice (my be i have to copy it to the CF )
does it mean i have to install debian one more time to add openoffice

any help guys

I've updated the jumbo pack - xqt-gtk-jumbopack_0.4.3-0.7_arm.ipk which basically means it includes the latest start scripts and icons as well and it should hopefully be able to be installed to CF/SD as well.

The latest jumbo pack (0.7 as indicated above) and several other updated files are now available on Daniel's mirror, though not yet on Chuckster's as far as I could tell. They all checked out with Daniel's md5 values for me, though there is still the discrepancy between the Chuckster and Daniel md5 values for the firefox file. Perhaps Meanie could post the md5 value for his version of the latest firefox if it's not too much hassle after the crash?

Given how much excellent work on the Zaurus Meanie has turned out in his spare time, one can hardly imagine what he's accomplishing in his day job. I'm looking forward to his next web page on running Linux on the OQO (hint   ). Then if we can find a compatible battery pack so the OQO can last more than a couple of hours, it would start to look pretty attractive, presumably a real step up in speed running fluxbox, eg, instead of XP.

Now the new files are downloadable from my web server. I had to re-download a few of them due to differences in the md5sums to meanie's md5sums. But all files which are now online on [a href=\"http://www.daniel-hertrich.de/zaurus/xqt]http://www.daniel-hertrich.de/zaurus/xqt[/url] are correct.

In case you have downloaded the xqt-gimp_1.2.5-3_arm.zip package from my website, please re-download it. It was faulty before.

The firefox package was correct before. Chuckster seems to have a wrong md5sum of this file on his page.

And: Please do not download all at the same time.   My web server is not the fastest one.

Hmm, my bad. I added a feature to check that the debian install file is not corrupted but of course if it is not there it sorta seems corrupted
To install openoffice, you will not need to install debian again, but the installer wants the file to be there so all you need to do is to copy it to your cf card as well. It won't actually install it again. Alternately, you could also comment out that section that check for the file.

I wonder if you can add in you web site some words about the keymapping on debian you knew the problem of "/" key

without the right keymapping the installation of debian is like incomplete

And i can't type no instruction without the "/" key

So it is welcome if you can add some explanations on how
1- to add the debian virtual keyboard
2- to resolve the problem of "/" key

Just a bit of feedback regarding installation on a 512MB ext2 formatted card on the 760: using the add/remove software applet failed, saying "this must be installed in main memory" after a while of processing.  

However, going to the command line, su'ing and then ipkg -d /mnt/card install /mnt/card/Documents/install_files/xqt...    saw it install without a complaint.

startx complained that it can't find the shared lobrary "libXMuu.so.1"...

I rebooted, and retried, still to no avail.

Then I tried reinstalling and....   it worked!

Any ideas as to why?

- I have this same problem running from an x-terminal window within Debian.  If I do a

find / -name "*scan*" -print 2>/dev/nullin the x-terminal window, it does not locate anything relating to dpkg what-so-ever.  The error message ignore prevents zillions of "permission denied" messages from appearing when it's traversing the /proc tree.
- I'm of the impression I need to run something to build "Packages.gz" so apt-get will use the local directory setting I put in sources.list.  I don't seem to have web connectivity with Hiro via the USB to the laptop, so I can't just pop out to the default sites in sources.list and let it get things.  I have the .deb files I want to install on the SD card already, if I can just get apt-get to figure out where they are...

used "apt-get install locales"
but during the setting(dpkg-reconfigure locales), i clicked zh_TW.utf8
and it ends to run out of memory
the x/qt is killed automacially

i have mointor the memory during the second time
i noticed that the physical memory is near full(>55M)
while the swap still has about 33M free...
but it still crush!
any method to solve this problem?

not sure, but maybe you need to create a bigger swapfile. if the swapfile is too small, things from physical memory cannot be moved to swap in order to clean up the physical memory.

I've been thinking about building a cramfs image for X/Qt jumbo so instead of installing X/Qt via normal ipk which takes ages and has problems with installing to CF/SD/hdd3, one could just copy the xqt-jumbo.cramfs file to desired location, ie CF, SD or HDD3, mount it as a loop device and then just run xqt-install.sh and it sets up all the required symlinks similar to my zgcc2-95-2.cramfs image. since the package will be using the exact binaries as the xqt-gtk-jumbo package, all should be the same except for the symlinks needing some testing to make sure that I didn't forget any  Anyone wanna try and be a beta tester?
