C3k Will Not Boot
« on: June 08, 2005, 07:53:25 pm »
I've had my 3000 for about 2 weeks and ran into a problem.  While using it at work, the screen went white.  Nothing I tried made a difference.  I tried a hard reset but after that if I tried to turn it on the screen would flash for half a second and that was it.  Plugging it in to charge did not turn on the charge light.

Tried to access the diagnostic menu but nothing happened.

I tried lpotters suggestion of: Hit reset button. Take power off, take battery out for about 5-10 minutes. put battery in, power cord in - leave for 10 minutes.  Still nothing although I now got a charge light.

It being late by now I left the battery out and let it sit overnight.   When turning it on I now get the initial Sharp boot screen with the red logo and some kanji below it.  That lasts for about 10-15 seconds and then slowly the screen fades to white.  After that nothing.

I can also now get to the diagnostic menu so obviously I'm not totally dead in the water.  I found the following suggestion in a troubleshooting post.

System will not boot past Sharp boot screen:

First solution (Will erase all data):
1) Remove the battery cover and press the reset switch.
2) Replace the battery cover.
3) Hold the OK button and power on the unit.
4) Plug in the unit.
5) Select the third option in the menu.
6) Select the first option in the second menu.
7) Wait (May take longer then 5 minutes).
System will then boot in Japanese.

What I am wondering is if this is my only option at this point?  I spent a lot of time converting to english and installing a bunch of apps and don't want to start all over if it is not necessary.

Apologies for the long-winded post but I wanted to provide as much info as possible.  Any help would be appreciated.

Ping...

Anyone have any feedback?  If not, I'm going to try the factory reset tonight.  Someone halt me if I'm on the wrong track.

Did you install any application just before it started acting up? Do you overclock it? If neither is true, it looks more like a hardware problem to me...

I've seen the "fade to white" issue mentioned in other threads, and I believe that Ragnorok was one of the users that was faced with this problem.  You may want to check with him and/or others to see how the issue was resolved. I don't recall ever seeing a solution posted, so hopefully this will help.

Factory reset has worked for me.

It would help if you had a back up to retore your programs and pims.

Good luck.
