Serious IMAP mail problems
« on: January 28, 2004, 11:33:04 am »
Hi all and sorry for the long message:

I am having 4 problems with the qtmail client.  I am
connecting a Zaurus 5600 to a Solaris departmental
mail server that runs IMAP4.  The server is being
accessed by so many different mail clients, without
any complaints, so I am assuming that it is configured
correctly.  BTW, I am tunneling (using ssh).

1. The first problem has been mentioned here.  Without
any way to tell the mail client about your mail
directory on the server, the \"retrieving folders\"
takes forever every time I connect.  BTW, it skips
tons of real mailboxes but adds to the tree one file
only, and it is not a mailbox!

2. At the end of mail retrieval I always get an error
message \"axxx NO Select Failed: Can\'t open r\".
xxx is a number, and the message is obviously
truncated.  The mail is downloaded, though.

3. When I delete mail, it is deleted on the Z.  It is
supposed to be deleted from the server on the next
connect (you can see the deletion messages flashing).
But messages remain on the server!

4. Finally, some messages disappear from the Z, when
they are still on the server.  That is, the count is
often different by a few messages.

The Z is nice, but one of its main tools (\"check you
mail from anywhere!) is badly crippled.

Thanks for any help or information on any of these
issues.

Ami

Most problems solved.  As I said in the original mesage, for some reason, the qtmail client added to its folder tree a server file, which was not a mailbox.

I deleted the file from the server and reinstalled the account.  With this file gone, the serious problems I described (2, 3, 4) disappeared.

I decided to try this after I read (in some non-zaurus group) about an IMAP mail deletion problem that was the result of a flawed folder tree...

Problem 1 remains, though: How to specify a mail directory on the server, how to subscribe to folders, and how to file messages into folders.
