Software From Win Ce On Zaurus?
« on: June 21, 2005, 03:55:20 am »
Hi
I'm looking for any idea how to run software from Win CE Pocket PC on Zaurus Cacko. I do not think that is possible but for me it is only way to run good gps map. I'm from Poland and every gps software with resonable good maps run only on Win CE, so i'm stuck now.
I have Zaurus c3000 (Cacko 1.23 B1) with qpgps (so far) and Socket Bluetooth GPS reciver.
Any idea??

This is definitely not worth the effort ;-)

Yes, i agree, but there is no other way for me right now. Now i have to manualy copy selected maps from my laptop (as png or jpeg) and calibrate it under qpgps, it's litle bit unconfortable.
Another thing that i find during my google search is that microsoft offer for free windows embedded system builder.
[a href=\"http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/getstart/bring2market/default.aspx]Microsoft embedded system [/url]
and, there is some softwere from win ce that i'm very interesting in, f.e. MS SQL server + MS SQL enterprise manager.

It's surely possible to port WinCE to the Zaurus, although it'll probably take you a couple of months of intensive work and you probably have to do it alone since you won't find many people which are interested in that

It's not doable, certainly not as a spare-time project and without funding.

There are some old threads about this talking in depth about trying to create something like Wine for CE - do a search of the forum.

I'd like to run sometimes on my Z:
Wine CE
Wine Palm (I know there is Qpose but so slow)
to be independent on appz choise.

If you want t run win appz on linuz you use WINE. If you want to run WIN CE appz on Z or other linux based PDA you are SOL. I think IMHO that such WINE CE and WINE Palm would help spreading linuxbased PDA market. I dont know how many code could be "copy paste" from WINE project ... Still think it should be interesting projects.

None. Read the old threads and find out why.

Indeed, but it would require motivated individuals who have time and the necessary skill,

Far better to download the maps, and find a Z app that will read them.
SL-6000L Sharp ROM 1.12 - 1G SD (RiDATA) - 2G Microdrive (Hitachi)
TRENDnet TE-CF100 10/100 (no drivers needed) AmbiCom CF56M-EZ modem (no drivers needed)
