Hh.org Bootloader (where?)
« on: June 21, 2005, 05:42:03 pm »
I have a new, unmodified, simpad and want to install opensimpad.  I read the various postings here, the old forum, and the opensimpad.org wiki.  What I can't figure out is where to get the hh.org bootloader.  Can someone post a link to the actual file they used?  I'm assuming it is one from handhelds.org but I can't determine which one.  Thanks!

Is this one of the Simpads from the guy on Ebay who's selling them cheaply?

Yes, mine arrived and was in perfect shape.  To answer my own question the  bootloader from hh.org is the blupdater.img

I'm flashing my SL4 with Opie image at this very moment! What a terrifying experience to watch how it erases/writes flash blocks...

Hmm, I've just got:

addr: 01030000 data: F42C26AEpartition <throwaway_bootldr_partition> deleted
RXSTAT error: 000000FF
booting jffs2...
booting boot/zImage from partition >root<
find_inode failed for name=zImage
Failed to find inode
loaded file of size = 0x00000000 at location 0xC0008000
kernel partition base C0008000
kernel_magic=20746573
kernel_region_words[9]=6F6C6264
Unrecognized kernel image
boot command failed, entering monitor

I guess, I'll have to start over...

Wow, I'm up and running opie! Thanks to reset, it now boots up.
Screen redraw feels faster than in Windoze (maybe partially due to lack of animation), but anyway it looks and feels faster and prettier.
Thanks to all opie/OZ/OE developers, good job!

The only thing I really miss is a good PDF reader. Adobe on wince was much much better even with big documents

I am still waiting for my Simpad (ground shipping from Arizona takes a long time   ).  While I am waiting, could somebody tell me the adventages of running Open Simpad versus Windowz?

The disadvantages of Open Simpad appear to be: lack of interest from the developers to update OS; lack of a good pdf reader.  Anything else?
SL-C3100 (from PriceJapan.com): modified Sharp Rom (couldn't make Japanese input work in Cacko Rom)

ex-SL-C3000; ex-SL-5600; ex-Simpad
